The Super Scope is, when seen in-game, a type of gun, and, in the Real World, a peripheral for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The weapon was used in the game Yoshi's Safari, which also used the actual Super Scope peripheral; they also cameo as an in-game item used by Sniper Bills in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
It is featured as an item in Super Smash Bros. Melee. A player can shoot energy balls at opponents, either in dozens of small bullets or three huge charged up shots. When a player repeatedly shoots small blasts in a line, the opponent will be unable to move away when hit. It will return in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but this time players will be able to walk, even jump, while firing the item.
The devo-guns from the Super Mario Bros. movie are also quite obviously designed after Super Scopes.
Super Smash Bros. Melee Trophy Information
A peripheral device for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Scope is a wireless weapon that shoots infrared light to a receiver placed on top of the television. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, it can be fired rapidly or charged up to release a more powerful blast. It only has enough energy for 3 charge shots.
