Mario has two Gloves in every game except in the first games (Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. and some others) and in games where he is a baby.
His gloves aren't really important, but in Luigi's Mansion, Mario loses one of his gloves, and Luigi has to find it. In Luigi's Mansion, Madame Clairvoya, after inspecting Mario's Glove, claims that it is extremely sweaty.
