The Red Sauce Sea is a giant sea from the The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "The Ten Koopmandments / The Artist". The water looks like Lava but it is actually red tomato sauce.
Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Toadstool and the Mushroom People were being chased by Koop Tut and his Koopa Pack, when they came to this sea.
They couldn't swim across it so Mario used Koopa's magic stick to make a path through the lake, and then close the path when King Koopa came. This is an obvious reference to the Biblical story of Moses, who called on Yahweh (God) to provide a safe path for the ancient Israelites through the sea. The path was closed when the Pharoah and his Egyptian soldiers arrived, causing them to drown (however in this episode, Koopa didn't drown).
