Smokey the Dragon is one of the boss racers on Timber's Island. During the events of Diddy Kong Racing, Smokey is brainwashed by Wizpig and entrusted with a piece of Wizpig's amulet. Smokey allows someone to race him if all of the challenges on his area, Dragon Forest, are beaten. During his race, Smokey leaves behind puffs of fire which can cause the player to briefly lose speed of his or her airplane. If Smokey is defeated, he allows access to Dragon Forest's Silver Coin challenges.
If all the Silver Coin challenges of Dragon Forest are beaten, players can re-race Smokey. In this rematch, Smokey flies much faster, and he also produces much more fireballs this time around. Smokey also appears in Diddy Kong Racing's end-of-game celebration after the defeat of Wizpig.
