In Super Mario World, these are stars on the map that connects various points in Dinosaur Land to Star World.
In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, it’s where everyones wishes go and are eventually granted. It was destroyed by Exor, on his way down to Bowser's Keep. The star-warrior Geno was sent to fix it.
It is called Star Way in Paper Mario, in which the Star Spirits create this path to help Mario and his team reach Star Haven.
