Mother Chuckalola, also known simply as Chuckalola, is a large, seemingly female tree found at the very end of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga's Chucklehuck Woods area. Chuckalola has little purpose in-game (acting to the Mario Bros' quest as nothing but a mere door), but she would appear to have some sort of great role in the culture of Chucklehuck Woods overall.
Mario and Luigi first hear of Chuckalola when they confront Chuckleroot, who informs Mario that she, a "great tree", is right ahead. Although Chuckleroot requires three multicolored Chuckola Fruit for entrance, the Mario Bros. soon meet his fee and (along with Popple and Rookie, who wish to steal the Chuckola Reserve for their own) pass by into a dark area presumably shadened by Chuckola's leaves. Afterwards, they reach a "Chucklehuck Woods Chuckalola" area, where they meet Mother Chuckalola herself: a tan, smiling tree with pink leaves and a large, striped trunk. Amidst Chuckalola is also a door-like entryway; Mario and Luigi use this to access Chuckalola's (surprisingly long) insides, which Cork and Cask had aptly described as a sanctuary. In the hollow tree, they find Bubbles and the Chuckola Reserve itself, as well as an unfortunate pair of Popple and Rookie, both of whom were kidnapped by the insane Bubbles. The Chuckola Reserve then erupted into Chuckolator, who attacked the Mario Bros., resulting in a battle within the depths of Mother Chuckalola; the last of the great tree was seen when Bubbles broke a hole in her to make Mario and Luigi forcedly fall into an underground labyrinth below her.
As she plays a very minor part in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, little is known about Mother Chuckalola; as a matter of fact, it is not confirmed that she (being a tree) even possesses gender. It is also unknown if she, like Chuckleroot and his unnamed granddaughter, is sapient, although her trunk does include what would appear to be a face. As Chuckleroot is the only one to actually call Chuckalola by her presumably full name "Mother Chuckalola", it is possible that she literally is Chuckleroot's mother (or, if the living trees of Chucklehuck Woods are to be thought of as more realistic, the plant that produced Chuckleroot's seeds); finally, little is known about Mother Chuckalola's importance to Chucklehuck Woods.
Trivia
- Chuckalola's name is likely derived from both the words "Chucklehuck" and "Lola", the latter being a name for girls and women.
- In Super Mario Sunshine (which was released a year before Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga), the area Pinna Park featured a large tree based on the Piantas that vaguely resembled Mother Chuckalola in basic shape.
