Boo's Horror Castle is one of the seven boards of Mario Party 9. The players ride in a magic carpet-like vehicle. The captain seems to be holding a lantern. The mid-boss of this board which is fought in a boss fort is a giant Dry Bones. The stagelboss which is fought at the top of the castle and through a Bowser Gate is the dreadful King Boo.
Layout
The players start out in the front yard of the castle. They then ride up the steps and go through the front door. They then arrive in a room in which they navigate through. The players eventually ride out the left side which is where the boss fort is and where a mid-boss (Dry Bones in solo mode) is fought. After that the players then enter the castle again. The players head through more rooms and then up more stairs. The players eventually reach the the roof which they navigate through and finally reach the uppermost tower where the bowser gate and a Stage Boss (King Boo in solo mode) is located. In order the stage boss, each player must roll high numbers to reach a certain number to open a gate to fight him otherwise they would have to do another lap of the last section. The main gimmick that appears the most here are the Boos that come out of mysterious pictures. These particular boos follow the players, and the boos move three spaces each turn. If they hit the captain player, the player will then lose Mini Stars. The captain event, which is called Scaredy Rat Race is when a Scaredy Rat comes by and steal Mini Stars from every player. Every turn, the will rat move a few spaces ahead. If a player reaches the Scaredy Rat, whoever reached the rat gets all the Mini Stars that were stolen. This board may be a reference to Luigi's Mansion.
Dry Bones Battle
The players start on a rock platform. Dry Bones then appears then leaps into the air. A lot of cards appear on the screen then flip. The player must memorize what colour is on each cards. Dry Bones lands on a colour. The players must choose which colour Dry Bones is on to damage him. The more damaged Dry Bones is the more colours appear. Sometimes the cards moved after they flip.
King Boo Battle
The battle starts out showing the inside of a tower in Boo's Horror Castle. King Boo appears and the battle begins. The players must line-up pictures of the same power-up. Once three or more are in a row, they will fly at King Boo doing damage. The player will get one point for each extra lined up (for example: If four Fire Flowers are in a row, the player will get four points). If the player lines up three Lightning Bolts, they will unleash a powerful attack giving the player ten points. Once King Boo is at orange HP, he will send Boos to do his bidding. The Boos chase the player's marker. If the Boos capture the player's marker, it will freeze and the player will have to shake the Wii Remote to break out.
