- “Hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo! You're gonna be coleslaw, kid! And that ain't good!”
- —Bristle, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Bristles are spiked monsters made of rock and are found in the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. They have high defense, and if Mario tries to attack one with his hammer, he'll end up hurting himself, as a spike will pop out from the Bristle once the plumber gets near. This monster is also impervious to jump attacks and fire. The Special Move Earth Tremor will defeat a Bristle, as well as a POW Block or an Earth Quake. Mario can even defeat them by simply using Superguards, as their HP is very low. Strangely enough, although Mario cannot normally use a hammer attack, he can use any hammer attack if he is equipped with the Spike Shield badge - the Bristle (and Dark Bristle) will not attempt to poke him with its spikes if he is equipped with this badge. If Mario attacks one with a Sleepy Sheep, the Bristle's spikes will still protrude while asleep.
Although Bristles have made no appearances outside of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, they were mentioned in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Before the Mario Bros. learned the Bros. Ball move, Young Toadsworth told his older self that he "looks like he has a Bristle in his britches".
Notable Bristles
