Robert William "Bob" Hoskins, Jr. (October 26, 1942) is an Academy Award-nominated English actor. He portrayed the live-action version of Mario seen in the movie Super Mario Bros., which was released in 1993. Despite being the actor of Mario, his role in the movie was not as big as the one of John Leguizamo, the actor of Luigi.
Bob Hoskins did not know Super Mario Bros. was based upon a video game; Hoskins only learned the film was based upon a video game when his son informed him of this and showed him the actual game.
