World 9 is the final world from New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It is a special world unlocked by defeating Bowser in 8. Each of the eight levels in this world is unlocked by collecting all of the Star Coins in the world of the corresponding level number. For example, collecting all Star Coins in World 1 will unlock World 9-1. Each level features the background and a music track from one of the previous eight worlds. World 9's levels were designed to be some of the hardest in the game. None of the levels have any midway points. The Super Guide is absent entirely, even if the player loses eight lives in the same level. The rainbow theme is similar to the Rainbow Road courses in the Mario Kart series, with the world map music even being an arrangement of Rainbow Road's music from Mario Kart 64. World 9 has a total of 24 Star Coins, which are needed if the player wants to get all five stars on their profile on the file select screen. Unlike in previous worlds, the levels can be played in any order, and no Enemy Courses, fortresses, or castles (or levels based on them) appear in this world. This is one of only two playable worlds in the Super Mario side-scrolling games to not include a true castle level, the other being World 9 in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, which is also a bonus world that unlocks after completing the game (however, World 9-3 in The Lost Levels does have a similar theme to the castle levels, though it takes place outside).
The World 9 from New Super Mario Bros. Wii is unlocked by defeating the final boss of World 8, and each of the eight levels in this world are unlocked by getting all of the Star Coins in the world of its level number.

Princess Peach alludes to World 9 in the first ending, where she asks Mario if she ever told him about the secret world while departing back for the Mushroom Kingdom.

Although it's for the first world, it's Floor is like a world 7-2. There are lots of spinning V-shaped platforms around the level. And a big L shaped (also spinning) platform. There is no halfway line, so trying to finish it will take a lot of work.

World 9-4 has many pipes and is a scrolling stage. Most of it's enimies are Venus Fire Traps and Bob-Ombs. It's main power-up is an ice flower wich is required to get the last two star coins.

9-5
It's a snow level. The Player must get to the top of the Icy Mountain avoiding Cooligans, Fuzzies and Mega Fuzzies.

9-6
9-7
Although this is the second to last stage, it is notoriously difficult, the level takes place in a snowy forest, with floors made of ice blocks, and pipes. Venus Fire Traps, Piranha Plants, and Fire Bros. appear in this level using their fiery attacks to burn open chestnut shells revealing Goombas and melting away the frozen landscape, making it difficult to traverse.

The last stage of the game is a sky level. In it, the "floor" is made of several clouds that let Mario jump every time he falls on them. A little ahead, two ? Blocks are found and one of those contains a Propeller Mushroom, which will be really necessary throughout the time. A little more forward, the first Star Coin is found surrounded by Fuzzies and after this part, a Random Item Block is found surrounded by 5 Fuzzies, one being a mega. Below them, a ? Block from the right contains a Mini Mushroom that can help the player to access high places. After that, the second Star Coin is found alongside Fuzzies. Forward, King Bills begin to break down walls so Mario can continue his progress. The third Star Coin is found stuck between walls that a King Bill will destroy. Arriving at the end of stage, a last King Bill will appear near the flagpole where it could be destroyed if the player jump into the flagpole before being hit by it. It has background from World 7.
