I honestly don't think it's "clearly" just that. The design is significantly different and Bowser Jr. left his original magic paintbrush on Isle Delfino, as seen in the post credits scene of Super Mario Sunshine. Given his skills of building machines, as well as magic like with necromancy when he revived his dad in New Super Mario Bros., it seems he made his own version of the magic paintbrush, especially since the design is that different and using his emblem like he uses on his other things. Others there were made by my brother who obviously lives with me and shares the same IP address. Regarding the Magic Paintbrush edit, I can't follow your logic there. How are there not multiple when Super Mario Sunshine had explicitly shown us that that the original one was left behind on Isle Delfino? That is a clear confirmation. Additionally, ones that have appeared in the future are quite clearly very different in appearance and feature slightly different abilities and paint types.
