Hey, I was just going to ignore this, but this [[User:Marino13|user]] is making backhanded comments about me and I'm not entirely sure how to handle the situation. It started when they deleted a message off my talk page that I simply reverted as I want to respect that messages should not be removed from talk pages. I haven't been on much because of other commitments so I simply said on my user page I wasn't editing much. :I have to be honest, I've looked into this (as have a few other admins) and I don't think Sdman has done anything wrong based on our policy. Users aren't required to respond to every message they get, and generally we'll only step in if it's impacting the quality of the wiki (i.e. a user continuing to break rules after being notified, or ignoring attempts to solve an editing dispute). I don't think that line has been crossed here. Hey, so Swallow notified me about that proposal from a while back that I wasn't aware of, and I'm confused about it. You can refer to our user pages to get up to speed (most of it is on Swallow's). Fair enough, many of those were quite old and outdated, but I still think some of the articles that used to have one of those templates don't really require much discussion to enact even now: some cases are either self-evident or policy-driven (i.e.recent/common). Glancing at your edit history, I'll just pick out a few that stand out to me, in my opinion: arrow wheel, Bowser Memory ML, CLEAR Block, Little Ogre, M-Token, Papa (disambiguation), Power Sneakers, spotted platform, Switch Block (Yoshi's Island series), Yoshi Island Spirits... However, Swallow tells me that, apparently, all of the articles that used to have those templates now require having discussions (re)opened. This is especially troublesome because I already moved spotted platform and "Switch Block" earlier due to the former being superseded and the latter's lack of better source, but those articles used to have a move template, so does that mean all that work will be unnecessarily undone? I interpret the proposal as intended to be more of an immediate clean-up rather than a super-strict rule since you used phrases like "some level of discretion," and genuinely, I don't think that part of the proposal was "set in stone" - was it something that came up at a different point? EDIT: I didn't see Swallow's most recent talk page comment until after posting, so it looks like there was a misunderstanding after all. Oh well. I guess the lesser points I've made at Swallow's talk page still stand, so as the proposer, I'm curious what you think regardless. :Yes, this is meant to be a change going forward since it's addressing more problems than just a cleanup of the categories (and besides, a cleanup is only useful if you keep it clean). The references to discretion were specifically in reference to what defines an inactive discussion.
:The proposal doesn't affect any scenarios where the change is something that should just be done right away according to policy, since in that case you can probably just go ahead and make the change without needing to discuss it. It also wouldn't require any changes to be undone. It affects when those templates can be used and nothing else. Whether an old discussion needs to be reopened depends on how much engagement it got before going inactive. If it got some decent support but the change was just never made for whatever reason, you could probably just go ahead and make that change, but if it was inconclusive, better to open it up again before putting those templates back.
:My view on discussion activity is that if you're suggesting a change, it's your responsibility (or supporters' responsibility) to keep that discussion active until it reaches a conclusion, and if that doesn't happen, then there's really no need to keep bloating those categories with suggestions from years back that never panned out. Keeping a discussion active is as simple as bumping it or moving on to the proposal stage anyway.

Seeing those still up after a while aided me in gauging situations, since my theory was that the longer exposure would naturally attract the strongest voices/opinions over time, and if it turned out that it didn't, it sometimes let me know that things were in the clear to proceed whenever I got around to revisiting. I did obviously open discussions when I thought things might have more contention right off the bat, but I suppose I did admittedly treat the template as a buffer between deeper discussion and outright editing. Again, I wasn't aware of the proposal or other discussion, so it is news to me now that it was seen as a problem to be taken care of. I am sorry that a number of users on the other end (over twenty!) viewed it as an eyesore. In fairness, I'll also say that it sometimes slips my mind that the move templates don't allow you to add your reason as a parameter, unlike the rewrite templates, so I would occasionally start to write reasons within the template, only to remember afterwards in preview that it doesn't quite work like that; therefore, I would often be forced to relegate those reasons to the edit summary, where I understand things tend to get buried. Would appending a similar reason parameter to those templates instead have worked to mitigate the issue? It would have made things more in line with the first drive-by proposal. And another thing still doesn't add up to me: like I said, I believe that proposal was made after Porple hid most meta categories/templates from visibility when signed out. I thought that already served to address it? As such, I feel like a proposal/discussion about it came...maybe a little late. I'm not the user whose edit you undid in [https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=Mario_Kart_8_Deluxe&oldid=3964175 this revision], but I wanted to follow up with it as it was a question I had [[Talk:Mario Kart 8 Deluxe#Wave 6 original order?|already asked on the talk page]] and had not received a response.

Part of why I believe this would be a worthy inclusion even though we don't know what courses will be in Wave 6 yet is because we ''do'' know some of the courses that were ''supposed'' to be in Wave 6 -- [[Wii Maple Treeway]] and [[Wii Moonview Highway]] are both already indicated to have been intended for that wave in the section (or at least the code used for Moonview Highway, though it was apparently a new track), while [[Tour Athens Dash]] and [[Tour Vancouver Velocity]] implicitly are as well, as they are not listed in any of the other waves. While this information is implied by the section, it's peculiarly left out of the complete list. Since we already know that at least those courses have been changed, I see no reason why we shouldn't go ahead and have a column. It would help readers to visualize which slots in Wave 6 we know will have been replaced when the wave does roll around. :It looks like a new button can be added pretty easily by adding a single line of code. Here's the one for the A button on the Switch, for example.

:I don't think the code itself is the issue, it's the sheer amount of images being displayed on the page. The template would reduce how many bytes the pages are, but it wouldn't do anything to solve the actual problems. The problem with just splitting pages up more is that we have to ask if they can logically be split further without inconveniencing readers. For example, one of the longest Tour-related pages is [[List of N64 Kalimari Desert tour appearances in Mario Kart Tour]]. This covers both versions of the course, so we could probably split off the 2nd version. That would cut the page down by less than half, which still leaves a very large page behind. The only logical option for splitting further is by year, but that's splitting up a pretty simple topic (the appearances of a single course in the game) across potentially five pages for each year the game was in service. Thanks for the answer! Surprisingly, Pizzaface didn't come back! Apparently the money in this tower is held by toppins. I don't know where the big group of people went, I assume they are in here as well. I've tried looking for "mustachioed Italians" like you said, but nothing YET. The portal disappeared as soon as I went through, so I couldn't just go back through. Plus, I don't want my house to blow up. The first open door I saw led to somewhere called "Tutorial". Upon completing it, I saw something that said "Lap portals unlocked". I think I'm going crazy! Laps!? And it didn't say which lap, so I assume all of them, but that's impossible! I thought I saw "mustachioed Italian" by this "boss gate", but nothing. It's open, but I don't want to go in without experience. Please help me with this.

I thought there was just 5! Must be some sort of after-effect from me entering there. I did get access to a vehicle (a car to be exact, but for some reason it was "from me", despite me never getting a car, it does have unlimited fuel, so no need on getting any), so lapping was much easier! Ha! You think I forgot about Wario and didn't post about the inevitable winter solstice? Think again. Wario has been causing so much trouble and other foul behavior by setting off fireworks past 2am for the past weeks before and after New Year's Day. Luckily, karma has caught up to him (which is easy since Wario wasted all his funds on professional fireworks and nothing on the gas for his motor bike), and Waluigi has accidentally lasso'd Wario onto here. He then fled the scene to save his own paltry skin, or whatever that's attached to those bones of his! So here's Wario,  about to set off! What will you do???

== Removing notice templates ==

I've noticed you frequently removing tags indicating work or improvements. For example, the ''Sticker Star'' stickers, which are in a limbo of being either sprite rips (which are inaccurate to their in-game appearance) or [[:File:SquirtgunPMSS.png|blurry, low quality screenshots]]. Similarly, you've removed talk templates when no conclusion was reached, almost systematically judging by them going in alphabetical order. [[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Nintendo Switch) sound test|This article]] should not have had its construction tag removed because there are blatantly empty columns. :The reason I removed the templates on the thing stickers (as mentioned in my first edit) was because of the shine effect that appears on them in-game. A direct sprite rip can't replicate that and I don't think it's beneficial to prioritize an image that doesn't accurately display the subject as you would see it in-game, and multiple users agreed with me before I went ahead with removing the templates. Nothing against possibly having the sprite rips uploaded against, but I don't think they should outright replace the more accurate in-game display. The inconsistency is a separate issue that we need to work out as editors, but until then we don't need templates asking for them to be reuploaded in a specific way.
:As far as talk templates, that's something I (and some current staff members) have been doing for a while simply to aid in usability of the category. I try to be careful not to remove any talk templates when there's a question of fact, but often times someone will make a suggestion to split, merge, or rename a page, and then the discussion just sits there for months or even years without any action. Over time those messages really start to clog up the category and make it very difficult to find anything (at some points in time, the category has had well over ''400'' pages). The way I see it, if you're suggesting a change to organization, it's your responsibility to keep that discussion active and follow through in some way. (Thankfully, recent changes by Porple have made it so that those issues should go under the appropriate maintenance categories instead of taking up space in unresolved issues, so that should be less of a problem going forward.)
:That being said, I recognize that my judgment obviously isn't perfect and I welcome anyone to revert the edit or start a discussion if they feel I removed something in error. Case in point, the sound test article! I was mainly checking to see if all the songs had samples and the empty columns slipped past me. You have made edits on pieces of lost media claiming they weren't lost media because you could "purchase them online". Thinking like that, nothing would be lost because you can access it somehow. Even if it's very difficult to do so. I do not believe this, in several cases of lost media. The media was up on eBay, but it's so expensive, most people couldn't buy it, and therefore, can't preserve them online. Not saying that the Wario Land 4 book for instance is impossible to get, but it can only be accessed by the people who have it. This applies to the LCD watches as well. A Flash game that's been removed from the internet and not properly archived anywhere is lost media because no one is aware of a way for the general public to access it. A coloring book or LCD watch that was a commercial product that many people own - and people can still easily acquire today as long as they're willing to pay up on eBay - isn't lost media. There's a difference between "I can't access this for free" and no one knowing how to access something (or if copies of it even exist anymore).
