Character galleries - excessive screenshots
Hi! I know you want to help add images to character galleries (particularly for Mario and Daisy), but the galleries are getting bloated from the excessive screenshots you've been posting to them. Most of these screenshots are similar to each other as well. Please refrain from adding any more to those galleries. Thanks! 12:21, May 27, 2024 (EDT)
: My mission is to tour the galleries that feature the designated character in the picture and put the picture in their desired galleries, making it somewhat easier to link to their galleries. VideoGamePhenomHD (talk) 12:24, May 27, 2024 (EDT)
::The thing is though, you only need a few pictures to link to a particular gallery. We don't need to add every single little detail, especially when other characters' galleries are not getting the same treatment. As it stands, even after all the pictures that Super Mario RPG and I have removed, Daisy's screenshots gallery is still longer than Mario's (a while ago at least), Luigi's, or Peach's. That amount of bloat is leaning towards fan worship as has been mentioned before. BMfan08 (talk) 12:31, May 27, 2024 (EDT)
:::With both outfit descriptions and excessive galleries, the reason I've been angry is because I deem it misogynistic and creepy to be focused excessively on every detail of women. Doesn't matter whether they're real or fictional. Super Mario RPG (talk) 12:38, May 27, 2024 (EDT)
::::Listen, there is a million reasons to frown whereupon, and the other site staff feel just about the same way. Let's play this way. How about if all character screenshot galleries have only one picture per game title with their alternate forms and other sports topics being except with a single screenshot as well. Does that sound fair to work a restructured deal? VideoGamePhenomHD (talk) 12:41, May 27, 2024 (EDT)
:::::The galleries are originally meant to showcase a couple of screenshots of a character in most cases (exceptions apply; I feel Mario cameos in WarioWare should probably be shown). I generally use one "main screenshot" that best illustrates the character from a particular game and then another screenshot that shows how players see this character most of the time in that game. Mario for Super Mario Galaxy as an example. I've relied on simply two screenshots:
:::::*:File:SMG E3 2007 Good Egg Galaxy.png: clearly shows Mario in outer space for Super Mario Galaxy; Mario is close up and crisp.
:::::*:File:GEGMarioStart.png: players see Mario at that distance for most of the game, and he's in the first galaxy that players of Super Mario Galaxy encounter.)
:::::Two screenshots is not the minimum but if you feel you can illustrate a component of Mario with another screenshot or two, such as a hypothetical special moment of him holding hands with Luigi, you certainly can but just always keep in mind, what's the best screenshot to illustrate this character? and keep it to a limited selection so it'll help you really filter what you have. 13:04, May 27, 2024 (EDT)
::::::Splendid. Sounds fair enough. As long as all galleries, involving characters and games stick to their usual topic, there can be no mixing or bloating. It seems like things are starting to get back on track here. Even though I have been spending quality time running into a stockpile of unmarked incidents, there's still hope that the Mario Wiki awaits newer content for the future, and that amateur prospects could learn the ropes on how to provide quality contributions here. ::::I suggest reading MarioWiki:Courtesy, since one of the rules is that you cannot tell admins what to do. == Plural to singular ==
See my summary here. Don't change "(item)s" to "an item" when there are usually multiple of them in the game; you even changed plural to singular in a context where there are multiple of them in a location, which doesn't make sense at all.
Also, this falls under the "unnecessary word changes" topic above but saying an item "reprises its role" sounds odd when this term is mostly reserved for performers. Just saying "reappears (as an item/enemy/etc.)" is perfectly fine. 10:41, May 28, 2024 (EDT)
Mario Wiki: What Mario Wiki is not
This should've been sent to you last night, but normal users are not allowed to just outright create new policies, especially without the approval of the staff or a proposal. The page you created is also plagiarized from Wikipedia's Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, although you just replaced "Wikipedia" with "Mario Wiki" (except for one instance as Arend pointed out). Please do not make these big changes anymore. 09:25, May 30, 2024 (EDT)
:Can you see this link please? VideoGamePhenomHD (talk) 13:46, May 30, 2024 (EDT)
::What exactly is your point with that page? 13:56, May 30, 2024 (EDT)
:::I am not fighting with anyone else here on the Wiki, but, everyone is doing everything they can to assure that all pages here give the proper descriptions in a quality matter. Even though my recent doings have attracted much attention of mostly mods, there seems to be rather a resolution that needs resolving. Some screenshots do deserve their descriptions, while most characters do deserve descriptions for their appearances, especially in alternate forms. Discrimination for what any user writes in such a manner is considered a big no-no. Simply just jarring about with all this, especially if it yields an unexpected warning, hurts the overall experience by all means. == Last warning ==
last warning
Do not add unofficial foreign names to articles. These need to be official names taken straight from localised versions of games; just throwing an English or any other name into Google Translate and using the result as the foreign name is misleading to readers and completely unacceptable. You were even notified twice in the past for this (and it seems you were even recently confronted on the same issue on the Italian wiki), and even then, this should almost be common sense especially for someone who's been on this wiki for a while. On top of the previous issues you've been reprimanded for, this is the last straw. 01:19, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
:Well, look. You had better go ahead and kick me out by blocking me. Because after so many quality contributions that I was able to provide to this Wiki, everything has gone to waste, all thanks to you people. To me, your site staff looks more like a bunch of liberal feral children who seemingly judge editors wrong about their contributions. So here is where we part and I wish you all the best of everything. VideoGamePhenomHD (talk) 13:19, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
::Uh, no? Not trying to be rude here, but while i am no admin, this really is more of a "you" problem rather than anything actually wrong with the Wiki, if anything. -- 13:54, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
:::What's a stranger like you saying on my talk page here? Even if you're not an admin and just randomly touring, you should just mind your god damn business and go away for a little while. VideoGamePhenomHD (talk) 14:13, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
::::Excuse me, but who do you think you are, talking to me like this? Please be a little more courteous. -- 14:36, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
:::::You, of course. What kind of unsanctioned business do you think you have here, unknowingly and randomly commenting on a stranger's talk page, especially here? Even if site staff messaged me before this, you simply have no business being here. VideoGamePhenomHD (talk) 14:41, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
::::::According to Help:Communication: "User talk – used to communicate specifically to a user about something wiki related or random nonsense. This kind of page can used to comment on almost everything. If you are given a reminder/warning, you may not remove it. These are supposed to be kept so administrators can keep track of offenses without having to dig through the page history." There is nothing stating only staff are allowed to use these pages. That being said, you have acted extremely caustic the duration of this and seem to be portraying yourself as some sort of freedom fighter going up against a corrupt administration with the support of the rest of the userbase, when in reality you are a normal user who is breaking the rules to the agreement of no one. Please calm down. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:56, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
:::::::Even though I was given a final warning, some people don't take it too lightheartedly and may vent out some frustration. Maybe that's led to all of this. With so many things going on right now, I shouldn't feel all that ruined, but knowing that this Wiki does have rules, especially by its founder, there is something people must abide. Even though my career here on Mario Wiki might be in jeopardy, I'm still willing to contribute, because everybody still deserve an extra chance. "Liberal feral children"? Excuse me? 16:03, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
:I was thinking the exact same thing, when i read this part. -- 16:05, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
::I'm not sure why VideoGamePhenom is more interested in yapping on and on every time they got a warning, than at least try to understand what they did wrong... I get a strong sense of "holier than thou" from these messages, especially when they say such things as "after so many quality contributions that I was able to provide to this Wiki, everything has gone to waste, all thanks to you people" (bolded part in reference to overly detailed descriptions of female character appearances, new (plagiarized) policies added without any admin's permission or knowledge, and fanmade translations of item names). 18:49, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
Also as a heads-up (also in general, not directed at any individual user): while I do agree with the posts, in fairness to what Ray Trace has said to Super Mario RPG earlier, I do recommend limiting the amount of interaction toward the affected user during moderation, per advice given in MarioWiki:Courtesy (Users should not insert themselves into disciplinary measures being taken by the admins.) Nothing you guys did was too serious but I just want to limit drama. 22:36, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
:Agreed. VideoGamePhenomHD (talk) 22:37, June 4, 2024 (EDT)
