:Well, if you look at Shigeru's interview here about Super Mario Galaxy 2: [http://gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/03/26/miyamoto-on-mario-galaxy-2-expanding-games-and-more.aspx], you will see that Shigeru stated Super Mario Galaxy as its prequel. So I guess 'prequel' and 'predecessor' mean the same thing. If the creator of Mario games said that, then it should be right. And also, sign your comments next time.
