| So Mysterii showed in the Triforce Wiki discord server an old Japanese guidebook magazine that has ''tons'' of artwork missing from A&A's coverage of TAoL - recolors, Great Palace enemies (but not bosses, unfortunately), and lots of misc. actions for Link that aren't even in the FDS manual. And it's clearly by the same artist. This also shows the yellow Daira artwork predates the western release, and the Carock art was originally red like the sprite. (And in my luck, the last page is an ad for ''Golf: Japan Course'' - ie the game I'm currently ripping from). Anyways, [https://archive.org/details/zines_zelda_famimaga_1987_aol_guide_600dpi/mode/2up here]'s a link. | :Oh dang, that's really cool! Tokuma Shoten also made pre-Shogakukan and pre-Nintendo Power guides, so they seem pretty reliable as a source at that time. I also like the magazine's defense/parry art. The illustrations seem to confirm that Reflex is intentional. I'll also take it as confirmation on what happens when the curtain closes (someone tell [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkhSG4HL8nc&t=191s Boundary Break]). Still doesn't seem to have info on that "Sage" though, despite giving him a text bubble. I know this is paltry in comparison, but the other day, I happened upon an alternate name for the Magic Jar [https://archive.org/details/NintendoPower1988-2004/Nintendo%20Power%20Issue%20007%20%28July-August%201989%29/page/n59/mode/2up here]. | I actually have a discussion on THAT going too, where I go into its appearance vs Sledge Bro vs MLSS Hammer Bro in detail, if you want to look at it. TLDR, MLSS Hammer Bro is basically how Hammer Bros looked at the time with a goofy smile and hunched posture, rather than being actually heavyset (note the lack of a large belly compared to the Limbo Bros, and the differences in limb proportions). | |
| Hello. Since you added the name ひとつ目ドッスン to the [[Spiked Thwomp]] page, I was wondering if you could answer a question that's been asked on the talk page proposal, regarding the context in which the name appears. Thanks in advance. [[User:Blinker|Blinker]] ([[User talk:Blinker|talk]]) 14:16, October 12, 2024 (EDT)

| ==Regarding SMBE French names==
| |
|
| |
| Hi. As you said the french SMBE isn't published by [[Dark Horse Comics]] but it doesn't mean that the book is legitimate. I already said it on [https://www.mariowiki.com/User_talk:PiNGOUiN my userpage] but the French version of SMBE make a LOT of mistake. Certainly less than the english version, but enough for the book to lose his legitimacy. There is a ton of names that were stolen from english, ennemies that were confused with other, and ennemies that were roughly translated from english containing the mistakes made by the english SMBE (conjectural names). Even the different games has not been translated correctly.
| |
| Some of translations are good. But a majority are bad/stolen/roughly translated. What are we doing then ? [[User:PiNGOUiN|PiNGOUiN]] ([[User talk:PiNGOUiN|talk]]) 18:24, October 22, 2024 (EDT)

| == Shark ==
| |
|
| |
| Howdy. I hope your day has been going well.
| |
|
| |
| When I write articles, I usually focus on questions that arise organically, and what would be valuable information to convey to readers. I also like to touch upon the origin of a subject's English name in the opening (as well as touch upon the Japanese one if helpful to the point being conveyed) because that usually conveys the creative design choices made for the subject. For something like [https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=Sushi&diff=4407173&oldid=4406892 Sushi], this is much more brief. For the SML2 [[shark]] enemy, it felt like more context was needed because the sincere question that arises is "why does this distinctive ''Mario'' enemy go by a nondescript, generic name?" It goes against the conventions of nearly all other enemies in ''Mario'' and fantasy media as a whole, where original subjects have discrete names. That is all I sought to explain. It is not tied to our policies - it is just a part of the enemy's history and valuable to explain.

| I do not personally like putting information that can be incorporated elsewhere in trivia (especially if it is a paragraphs worth of information), and I do not think this is specifically trivial information. And, personally, I do not really understand why that comparable bit in the [[Nipper Dandelion]] article is tucked away in trivia. Many enemy articles talk about the entomology of the subject's English name in the opening. The fact that these publishers utilized our site instead of exercising their own resources for these subjects does not make it less important, so while I assume you have good reason for it, it is not immediately clear to me what makes this information "indulgent." - [[User:Nintendo101|Nintendo101]] ([[User talk:Nintendo101|talk]]) 17:58, October 22, 2024 (EDT)

| == Quick questions involving Yoshi's Island bosses and some other stuff that's not as important (or maybe is?) ==
| |
|
| |
| *Does [[Priscilla the Peckish]] have a gender in Japan? Or is it referred to as by gender-neutral terms like most other Yoshi bosses?
| |
| *In a similar vein, does the Super Mario Advance Guide (the English one) refer to [[Marching Milde]] and [[Sluggy the Unshaven|Sluggy]] with different pronouns from the original SNES Guide? (In addendum to the Sluggy part, does her parent species have an alt. artwork where the spots are colored blue? Or are Sluggies exclusively colored red/pink in artwork?)
| |
| *Is the name "[[Bashful Burt]]" ever used outside of cards?
| |
| *Is there any version of [[Barney Bubble]]'s artwork that colors with its purple and blue coloration from the sprite, or are they all red and white? Could also be a case of Melon Bug there.
| |
| *Is the name [[Seedy Sally]] actually used to refer to the Needlenose throwing ones, or the watermelon ones? How do the "Level Guide" pages handle/use the term? Is it used for both types? Is the guide inconsistent in that matter?

| == guide to mainline subjects that still need articles ==
| |
|
| |
| Hi, LinkTheLefty. Over the past few weeks, I have been working to put together a large guide to subjects in the mainline series that still need articles on the wiki. It includes a brief description of each subject, an attested English name, and their Japanese name. My hope is that other users can use this as a launching point to research and make these articles themselves, and to directly copy and paste the name citations. I thought this guide may interest you, so please feel try to check it out right [https://www.marioboards.com/threads/48110/ here on Mario Boards]. - [[User:Nintendo101|Nintendo101]] ([[User talk:Nintendo101|talk]]) 04:36, January 14, 2025 (EST)

| ==Voting in own proposals==
| |
| I'm planning on doing a couple of TPPs. How do I vote in my own proposals? [[User:PrincessPeachFan|PrincessPeachFan]] ([[User talk:PrincessPeachFan|talk]]) 09:06, January 15, 2025 (EST)
| |
| :I'm not sure if I understand the question. You vote with <nowiki>#{{User|PrincessPeachFan}} [per]</nowiki> just like how you normally vote in proposals. If you have multiple options, you can vote for multiple. I've seen some proposers vote oppose for their proposals, which I guess raises an eyebrow but it's not unheard of. Just don't vote for every option and you're good to go. Follow the format [[MarioWiki:Proposals#Basic proposal formatting|here]] and you'll be a pro in no time. | :: All right, I copied it, put the TPP on and there is a proposal on the page for [[Dangan Mario]]. Thanks! [[User:PrincessPeachFan|PrincessPeachFan]] ([[User talk:PrincessPeachFan|talk]]) 20:00, January 15, 2025 (EST)

| You said “times where families get..screwy” in my wonderful proposal and then you mentioned [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g0uXcTF3mA&t=281s a video that shows Mario and Peach have a freaking son]. I was wondering: you said “ times where '''''FAMILIES''''' get..screwy”. “Families”, plural. Do you know any other case like that? | :The Kong family is an obvious example of one that can look pretty bad if you take the designers' telephoning too literally. [[User:LinkTheLefty|LinkTheLefty]] ([[User talk:LinkTheLefty|talk]]) 07:25, January 30, 2025 (EST)

| == Big Fire Piranha Plant ==
| |
|
| |
| Howdy! I'm sure you are aware, but when Mario Portal updated the Mario Portal page for [https://www.nintendo.com/jp/character/mario/en/history/new_smb2/index.html New Super Mario Bros. 2], they render the name "Big Fire Piranha Plant" correctly. For reasons that escape me, it remains "Big Fire Piranha Plan" on the [https://www.nintendo.com/jp/character/mario/en/history/64/index.html older pages]. Do you think this is reasonable grounds for moving the page's name to "Big Fire Piranha Plant," or should we perhaps wait and see if it is used in-game or at least in association with a more recent release? (Big Fire Piranhas for some reason are not on the Mario Portal page for Super Mario Bros. Wonder.) - [[User:Nintendo101|Nintendo101]] ([[User talk:Nintendo101|talk]]) 12:32, January 27, 2025 (EST)
| |
| :My gut says to wait like with Bomber Bill. I've thought about the possibility of filling in unnamed appearances with Portal names, but that'd lead to even more anachronisms and clashes with legacy names. [[User:LinkTheLefty|LinkTheLefty]] ([[User talk:LinkTheLefty|talk]]) 07:25, January 30, 2025 (EST)
| |
| ::Understandable. Though I do feel like Big Fire Piranha Plants are far less likely to be name dropped in a future release than Bomber Bills were. - [[User:Nintendo101|Nintendo101]] ([[User talk:Nintendo101|talk]]) 13:19, January 30, 2025 (EST)
