Well I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to Game Maker, but is everything on the screen floating to the left?  When I used it, I had a similar problem.  The select your game browser kept going down when I didn't put in the command for it to do that.  You can select how many pixels anything on the screen can move by issuing a certain command, and what probably happened is that you skipped too many.  Try using a smaller number, and if it still moves too much or too little change the number until you have your ideal movement.
