| :Thank you for the very thoughtful message, and for the heads-up. Personal improvement is a major goal of mine (and you can see it in comparison to the outright hostile entity I tended to be when I initially joined), and I do indeed have difficulty reading a room in a place where a professional tone is generally maintained, so reaching out is appreciated. I do tend to react with a very base level of aggression when I perceive (consciously or otherwise) that someone is doing something that comes between me and one of my passion projects (of which I have several on this site), but I am taking efforts at keeping that under control - after all, what's a wiki for if not for collaboration with many people with different points of view? But yes, thanks again, I appreciate a little disciplinary heads-up when I need alerted. | == Super Mario Bros. 3 gallery ==

| Hi, Doc. I assume you saw Ray Trace and me delete the White Block sprites you uploaded. Just for posterity, we did this because multiple users checked recent uploads are were immediately overstimulated with flashing lights and this can cause seizures or epilepsy in some people. My eyes currently hurt from combing through those. I understand we have no policy for this on the books at the moment, and you probably did not consider the impacts of that, but going forward, if you or anyone else is uploading an animated sprite of rapidly changing colors, please deviate from what is done in-game by slowing it down to ensure we are not hurting our visitors or causing any sort of epileptic episodes. I hope that is understandable. Please do not upload every single sprite variant of a rapidly color-changing subject for Super Mario Bros. 3 or any other game, and if there are legitimately fully distinct animated sprites of changing colors, they should not be uploaded one after another. I hope that is understandable.

| |
| Additionally, while this was surely an Herculean effort and you have uploaded some cool stuff, I wanted to let you know that multiple users have relayed that they feel the amount of sprites on the Super Mario Bros. 3 gallery have become really gratuitous. Many folks do not think we need the variant of every single subject in every single scenario. I know you put in a lot of work, and staff probably should have touched base with you sooner, but I think it is time to consider making cuts, or at least distributing some of these variants to other galleries and articles. - Nintendo101 (talk) 00:47, March 6, 2025 (EST)

| :The main reason for the variants thing for enemies and such is for the enemy tables in stage articles, actually, moreso than the game gallery - I just want to gather them all there before I disseminate them out so as to not need to make multiple sweeps. Also, for a more thorough list of differences for the remake pages. I guess this cuts down the work I need to do, lol, there are precisely 271 possible invincible Mario/Luigi flashes counting all power-up combinations and the map sprites in addition to the stage palette variations; this will bump that down to a much simpler 24. Regarding the blocks, three of them were used on a notes point on the White Block page, so that will need dealt with. I suppose the simplest thing is to keep the one that was already there (ie, the one with a different naming structure). I had considered drafting a new feature allowing tagged images to be activated from one's view (non-visible by default) to avoid any complications with flashing images, but I'm not sure if that can be implemented. I actually do take seizure risk very seriously, which is why I shrunk down those images in particular on the gallery - but I hadn't realized people check the "new files" page for any reason other than collecting their own images, so I apologize for that. My brother has epilepsy and that's led to some scary moments for us both. (On a more amusing note, I was born on the exact day of the Pokémon Shock incident.) | ::In all my honesty, I'd still push for slowing down the flashing frames on these color-changing sprite GIFs. Assuming your feature about tagged flashing images comes to life, I can't imagine if that's gonna be really useful, because if it works similarly to collapsible tables, users might click on it and get flashed with sensitive flashing imagery, assuming those are unchanged. Mario Wiki aims for accuracy, but in some situations like these, I think that's where we need to deviate a bit.

Additionally, my other concern on the excess sprite images in the gallery is potential loading times (even if these images are small), especially for mobile data users. I could not imagine myself wasting data over seeing several variants of colored water from a world map, and it's honestly a little bit of a pain to scroll through. I had an idea though, of cutting down those images in the Gallery, then moving their variants to respective world and level articles that make use of those palettes, especially for enemy tables. Though that'd require some input from you and staff before that can be pulled off. -- 06:17, March 6, 2025 (EST)

| :::That was my idea, actually. I wanted to gather them in one place before doing so so I didn't accidentally skip anything. It's a work in progress. The idea for the flash thing, that was more a toggle bubble than a collapsible thing, but again, I don't know if that'd be possible to implement in mediawiki. | Regarding the flash combinations, I thought it over and I think the best way to include them all (as it is interesting trivia) is to upload one, then link a diagram (similar to what I have here) with the file link template that explains how it works without having to worry about overstimulus or too many files. It will also explain the order and the speed in text. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 09:41, March 6, 2025 (EST)

| Hello Don Von Smechltwick, I need your help, it is related to the Big Chain Chomp article, because I was looking at his last appearance and this is in the Wario Ware Move it microgame, titled Super Mario World 2: Yoshi Island (microgame), in this Chom Shark appears devouring the ground as usual, this is mentioned in his description, could you help me find this information but in Japanese?--Sorbetti (talk) 19:46, March 7, 2025 (EST)

| :I'm sorry, I'm very poorly versed in the WarioWare series. There's people who'd be a lot more useful for that than I would be. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:58, March 7, 2025 (EST)

| |
| ::::If we get that brief description in Japanese, we'll be able to know what Shark Chomp is currently called and that will clear up any doubts. I can't find any pages. Do you have someone you know who has the game who can send me a screenshot of that description in Japanese?Sorbetti (talk)
| |
| :::::Sorry, I do not. I tried web searching the game's Japanese name with 9-Volt's, but only found gameplay videos without the text blurbs. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did if you try that. | On the Ice Block discussion page, a user found a Japanese guide that according to LinkTheLefty appears to have been co-written by KAdokawa and Shogakukan and supervised by Nintendo. What do you think of this Guide --Sorbetti (talk) 17:30, March 8, 2025 (EST)
| |
| :I dunno, it seems to list helpful things as enemies and sometimes seems to make up differentiators that don't appear elsewhere (ゲロゲーロボス for Prince Froggy rather than ゲロゲーロ and 水中プクプク for underwater Cheep rather than プクプク or プクプク(水中) stand out). I'd treat it with the same level as the others, certainly no more, and given it's older compared to the SMA3, YIDS, and YNI guides and doesn't seem to be the "main" Shogakukan guide, perhaps a bit less subject-division-wise. | ::::Its colophon has the ■協力/任天堂株式会社 point, so it can be considered an official guide, although in general we tend to discuss the peculiar claims of those guides that are not Nintendo Official Guidebooks before adding them (see the case of the Super Mario Pia and its interesting claim about the Super Mario Sunshine King Boo).—Mister Wu (talk) 09:51, March 9, 2025 (EDT)
