| Are you sure merging Break the Targets and Board the Platforms is a good idea? These minigames contain Mario stages, something that should be covered separately. Also, a recent proposal removed Trophy Tussle for only having one fight on a Goomba throphy. Even though it's small, it is a Mario stage after all. What do you think? Axii (talk) 00:50, September 11, 2024 (EDT)

| :Unless we make individual articles for things like "Break the Targets (Mario, Super Smash Bros.)," I don't see it turning out any different from the Trophy Tussle thing. Granted, we could do that at some point, but it might be a bit much. For what it's worth, I am not wanting anything outright deleted, just turned into a redirect at most, so the history will still be there. | == Proposal backlogs ==
| |
| | |
| Hi, Doc. You raised two new proposals today, which is fine, but I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that you have 10 passed proposals that are waiting to be implemented (including every unimplemented talk page proposal), with some having passed multiple years ago. Other users have noticed and raised this issue with staff.
| |
| | |
| I would appreciate it if you started working on implementing your past proposals. Proposal rules do specify that passed proposals should be enacted "in a timely manner" and while no time limit is specified, surely two years without any movement is well beyond that. I understand some of your past proposals impact a decent amount of articles, or entail creating a decent amount of articles, and they would be time-consuming to implement by yourself, but some of them are quite small (like the Crocodile Isle one) and manageable by yourself. You also have the tools necessary to ask for help on the big ones if you want it, via talk pages like this one and Mario Boards. - Nintendo101 (talk) 23:41, September 25, 2024 (EDT)

| :Hi, generally speaking I prefer to give myself a sort of buffer of busywork, so that's why I do it in that way (if I don't have one, I tend to get a little.... erratic. Moreso than normal, I mean). Anyways, I am busy with other things at the moment (both in real life and the fact that I've been working on this MKT characters table for consecutive weeks since the "sports" thing is my most current project, as it has been for the past 15 months or so), so that's part of why it takes so long. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:57, September 25, 2024 (EDT)
| |
| ::I could understand that you like having projects on the back burner to go to, but I do not think you need 10 of them, and while you may have things going on in real life, you are active here enough for me to know you have not been so busy over the last three years (with your oldest proposal being September 12, 2021) that you could not work on implementing these. If you have the time to work on MKT character and sports tables, you have the time to merge the Crocodile Isle articles or split Bowser's Flame from Fire Breath. - Nintendo101 (talk) 00:21, September 26, 2024 (EDT)

| :::Well those ones -just- passed, I'll get to them soon. Tomorrow I have a big event. | == Proper separation for Gallery ==
| |
| | |
| The proposal was canceled because nobody agreed to generational separation. I want to find a proper way to separate them. Most of the proposals I made have failed. What method of split do you think would be appropriate? Mario is still a long sized even when separated by each decade. Other characters can be merged from the first decade with the next decade without any size issues. Later, when Mario turns 50, some galleries may be separate the first a quarter-century. The proposal has been canceled and hope that you can find a proper division method. Windy (talk) 15:18, October 8, 2024 (EDT)

| == Re: Blueberrymuffin's rips ==
| |
| | |
| Hello! I appreciate your inquiry, and am aware that others do prefer "accurate" sprite rips complete with empty dimensions. However, consider the following: this is not enforced by the wiki and the way a sprite looks is entirely up to the digression of the individual uploader. I say as long as it doesn't conflict with the way any existing templates or articles look, it doesn't need to be 100% uniform in dimension. It looks better this way, to me personally. You are also tarnishing the "accuracy" of these sprites by uploading it to a wiki to begin with because you have to file other file guidelines such as naming.--
| |
| | |
| :I don't really wish to speak on anything else, but I will say this: my uploads were supposed to have comments, but did not due to a bug with batch upload not supporting that for new files. Anyway, I understand what you are saying, but still think it is unnecessary, as it can easily be accommodated on both the gallery and table front without any unnecessary tampering of files, period. I don't believe it is needed at all for those Mii costumes. I checked myself, they don't look wrong at all on the table on the article.--
| |
| ::Do as you please, I wasn't aware of that.--
| |
| | |
| I agree with you, sprites should be preserved so as not to lose quality when placing them in the gallery or table. And this is not just a matter of aesthetics, the actual use of the command [widths="120" heights="120"] depends on standardization. | == "Bowser's" Flame ==
| |
| | |
| I wanted to pick your brain on something. Do you think the fire launched by King Totomesu, Piranha Plant (statue), and similar subjects are the "same" as Bowser's Flame, or is it really dependent on Bowser or a member of his species spitting the fireball for it to count as Bowser's Flame? - Nintendo101 (talk) 23:16, November 4, 2024 (EST)
| |
| :I've been thinking about that in regards to subjects like Autobomb, since I noticed its NES sprite resembles Bowser's flame (more than its SNES one, which iirc just uses the Birdo/Tryclyde/Fryguy fire). I've been considering, perhaps, we should make a separate article for stationary "flame" obstacles (like the falling ones in SMW and NSMBU, the torches in SM64, and other assorted things) and having "fire (projectile)" encompass those other ones (including Bowser's) - especially the Piranha Statue, since it's the named enemy in that case, simply named "fire" it may be. I also think that much of what is currently on Fireball (obstacle) should be merged between the standard fireball (the swirling/spherical kind that generally bounces around, like Fire Mario shoots), the forward projectile, and the stationary/falling obstacle. But that's just spitballing at this point, since there's so many other types of fireball obstacles that don't fit cleanly, like Reznor's. | == SMG enemy appearances ==
| |
| | |
| I noticed you've been working on appearance lists for enemies in the SMG games (nice to see someone working on those btw, they're way overdue). I'm a little unsure about the current implementation and came up with a bullet list design, I'm curious what you think of it. I was trying to be more efficient on space and clean up information that felt a little superfluous (mainly dealing with missions where the enemies are absent) -- 14:08, December 26, 2024 (EST)
| |
| :Main issue I see there is it's a lot harder to glean information at a glance compared to mine when it's just words (with line breaks) without subdivision (and the multi-columnar appearance of that bullet list feels a bit off to me as well). The main purpose of the "absent" ones is so you can tell "oh, that's the first mission and that's the third mission, but not the second mission" easily, and it doesn't have to deal with line breaks. I think a bullet list is preferable for less... multidimensional appearance lists, but this one needs a bit more formatting than that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:15, December 26, 2024 (EST)
| |
| ::That's fair, I'll give you that yours is easier to work with at a glance. My goal there was to make it clearer to readers what's going on. For someone who is unfamiliar with the game (or maybe it's been so long that they forgot some details) just seeing that an enemy is in missions 1 and 3 isn't as helpful as knowing what those missions actually are, IMO. Better to have that information directly on the page than make people hover/click on the stars to find out as it's less steps for the reader to figure out what's going on. It takes a little more time to process, but also we're a wiki and I don't think having to read a little hurt anyone. So I think our philosophies there on what's important for presentation on an article just differ.
| |
| ::I went for the columns on the bullet lists since the alternative was using a lot of horizontal space and leaving a lot of whitespace, which I didn't really want to do. That could be put in a collapsible but I don't like to rely on those, as far as I know they can't actually close on mobile. The spacing on the columns can be adjusted though if that's an issue. I'm also kind of thinking ahead here, I figure a design like this can easily be used for other games in the series where tables wouldn't really be appropriate like SMB or 3D World. -- 14:58, December 26, 2024 (EST)
| |
| :::I always tend to put equal spacing of visual assets in favor of written words when appropriate (but when there's space for it I prefer both, as my -highly controversial- table designs for sports games shows), though I agree that a bullet-point-list would definitely be preferable in more linear games, and in many cases they are already written as such (when the list exists in the first place). Super Mario 64 would also probably work better with the bulleted list simply for the reason that the amount of enemy presence that actually varies depending on the mission can be counted on one hand in that game (for the original, I can only think of the Koopa Troopa in Bob-omb Battlefield and the Bill Blaster in Whomp's Fortress, and am not counting the manta ray since that depends on whether Fire Sea has been completed rather than the mission). My hope is that other users can use this as a launching point to research and make these articles themselves, and to directly copy and paste the name citations. | The Galaxy boss poster is beautiful and iconic, but the "settings" section discusses the aesthetics, structure, and overall feeling of the locations in the game, so the boss poster does not really work in that section. Bosses are not even really discussed in that section at all. I do think the article would benefit from a brief write-up on how bosses work in Super Mario Galaxy, similar to your write-up on the New Super Mario Bros. article and what I wrote in the Super Mario Odyssey one. I do not personally think that is less true because the model technically remains intact in a plane not viewable to the player. But regardless, it has no shared relationship with Lava Geysers, which at minimum would probably have to be a geyser of lava. I recommend treating them as a type of lava burst or a different subject entirely. It does not look like the fire present in other parts of the game, so I do not think it genuinely can be lumped with fireballs, but it at least has more mechanical similarities to this object than Lava Geysers. - Nintendo101 (talk) 18:00, February 5, 2025 (EST)

| ::::::I hope I didn't keep you waiting. I think the object you link to more comparable to the fireball from Mario Bros. than all of these other subjects, tbh. I do not know if you saw my edit from that article, but I think the orange flames launched by Magikoopas may be more accurately understood to be spells, even with Black Dino Piranha spitting them (I personally see that as more of an exception than a rule, given Maigkoopas and Kamella are more recurring in the game). - Nintendo101 (talk) 21:30, February 6, 2025 (EST)

| Howdy. What is scaling it to a multiple of the assets' dimensions better than just uniform 200x200px? - Nintendo101 (talk) 02:24, February 13, 2025 (EST)

| :Because inconsistent pixel sizes on a single image look rather gross. They should all be a uniform size whenever possible; that was the main deal behind the rawsize gallery thing. | ::::I will note that on my laptop and phone, the "native" scaled galleries and ! switch image aren't actually aligned to my screens' pixels, because of the OS and browser scale settings I use for legibility. I would prefer to have the images be larger and easier to see when scaling them exactly to the screen isn't an option.--PopitTart (talk) 18:56, February 13, 2025 (EST)

| :::::Misaligned pixels look blurry and crusty, so it's best to avoid. And I don't think most people zoom their screens as a standard thing they do. I could be wrong about that, but I really don't think that's common enough to base everything we do around it. | ::::::Agreed with Doc. The pic doesn't look good on my PC at 200x200. The current 144x144 setting is more balanced, as it gives the image a sufficient amount of fidelity while making it eligible to be shown in article previews like Nintendo101 pointed out. 19:37, February 13, 2025 (EST) | |
