| I can only do so much screenshot replacement with ''[[Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story]]''. Beginning and end is all I can do with the use of saves from GameFAQs. I haven't played the game at all so I have no clue how to trigger certain events to replace those terrible screenshots. Also RPGs are very tricky because of their linear, scripted, and mostly only once-event-trigger nature. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 00:17, 23 November 2016 (EST) | | I can only do so much screenshot replacement with ''[[Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story]]''. If I did that, I would think a few images for ''[[Yoshi's New Island]]'' would be worse than the previous upload, like [[:File:Egg Island.png]] for example. Trust the plug-in. The older version of that image had some blur, filters (against [[MarioWiki:Image use policy|policy]]), and wasn't sized correctly (even the cropped 320x237 image would be 592x408 if enlarged). | :::::::I think you are reading too much into it. I wouldn't waste your time thinking about screenshots in that regard. Pixel accuracy really refers to how accurate an emulator is able to replicate the hardware on the visual side of things minus any analog conversions to make it compatible with those old CRT TVs or new TVs with backwards compatibility for that standard. Also removing that conversion means a clean image output that is easily compressible. For example, an uncompressed 256x224 screenshot of an NES game would be 172032 bytes. I have seen it go down as low as 5120 bytes on average. That's ~97% compression efficiency when it is uploaded! That's really something if screenshots are captured as clean as possible. That Paper Mario screenshot you submitted has a compression efficiency of ~87%. That's pretty good for people with slow or metered internet connections. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 02:07, 28 November 2016 (EST)

| I think the internal resolution for ''[[Paper Mario 2]]'' is 608x480. Instead of using OpenGL or DirectX as a backend, I selected ''software renderer'' (savestating before switching backends because software rendering is VERY SLOW). The title screen to the right is a test. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 00:27, 3 December 2016 (EST)

| ::[[User talk:A gossip-loving Toad/Archive 1#PPTTYD Screenshots|I was wrong about 640x528]]. I took the 608x480 to the right to have a width of 640px (keeping it to scale). Then I center cropped to be 640x480. Tested the title screen on real hardware and the image I resized matches pretty closely to what real hardware does, at least for me. That part of the mystery is solved. I wonder why Nintendo did that? | :Here's the template you'll need: [[template:MLbestiary]]
| |
| :Everything should be self explanatory since it's almost no different from placing the enemy boxes. But, I do have a few pointers:
| |
| *Whatever you put next to <code>|altname=</code> needs to be exactly what you replace <code>NAME</code> with. However, no two enemies on the page can have the same <code>NAME</code>.
| |
| **Don't worry about setting up the link. By default, <code>|name=</code> is used to link the Enemy's name to it's article. If you get to an enemy that uses extra text like <code>Bowser (2)</code>, use <code>|altname=</code> To display it that way. The link is setup link this <code><nowiki>[[name|altname]]</nowiki></code>.
| |
| *Please don't alter the code of the template.
| |
| *Oh, and for the <code>|role=</code>, this is the replacement method for using Bold, Italic, Bold and Italic, and Bold First Letter to indicate what kind of enemy it is.
| |
| **Use these: <code>common, miniboss, boss, support, optional</code>
| |
| *Finally, don't change <code><nowiki>|align={{{align|right}}}</nowiki></code> because this is the way to change the alignment of the enemybox.
| |
| :If you want to replace the enemybox on every page, replace them with this
| |
| <pre><nowiki>

| {{:Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga bestiary|transcludesection=NAME

| I'm going to say yes, but there isn't a category for it yet. Many pictures like that one need a category. I would ask {{user|Porplemontage}} for advice (or even ask him to remove the <code><nowiki>[[Category:Photos]]</nowiki></code> code temporarily to force affected images into [[Special:UncategorizedFiles]], like it was done several months ago with sprites and screenshots). --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 16:56, 15 December 2016 (EST)

| == Replace Images ==
| |
|
| |
| I just noticed [[User:A gossip-loving Toad/Sandbox]]. Word of advice. Make sure to use ''SoftRasterizer'' instead of ''OpenGL'' for 3D settings because I noticed that the map layer (environment) below the sprite layer (Bowser, Mario, etc.) is not rendered correctly for BIS. You can see the difference: [[:File:MandLBISss4.png]] --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 00:54, 18 December 2016 (EST)
| |
| :I don't have any set way to detect those kinds of images (JPEG to PNG). It gets harder with more complex screenshots. My best advice is to be on the lookout for files around 50KB or more for sprite-based screenshots, especially if the image is 256x192. Any screenshot that isn't 256x192 (or stacks the two screens to produce numbers 256, 192, or 384) needs to be redone anyways. If you really have doubts, you could do some intense analysis of the image or just screenshot anyways. Very rarely do I produce near-similar results as the upload I suspected was JPEG to PNG. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 04:50, 18 December 2016 (EST)

| |
| :::::Turning off 3D makes [[Baby Mario]] disappear. SoftRasterizer is buggy in this case. I found out that OpenGL works better. 3D is harder to emulate accurately. Real hardware doesn't do this. A sprite using 3D transformations can distort the sprite a little bit, like ''[[Paper Mario]]''. As for '''TXT hack''', this could be similar to [[Bulbapedia:Pokémon Colosseum|Pokémon Colosseum]] and changing the '''texture cache accuracy''' in Dolphin to make the text render properly. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 01:26, 30 December 2016 (EST)

| Just like Dolphin Emulator, there isn't a set and forget solution to what is the best settings to use. DeSmuME, 0.9.12 is in the works that could have fixed the slight issue but don't hold your breath for a release. The developers relish in the idea of annoying users by delaying releases and withholding much needed features for the emulator because they had a bad time with the more obnoxious users. So they punish everyone, even if those users are innocent where the minority are the obnoxious ones. They aren't very nice. Two wrongs don't make a right sort of deal.
| |
|
| |
| The detail is so little that the current version of that PNG is better than the JPEG so I think the JPEG is worth deleting. If you really want to test things out, does SoftRasterizer render that part of the image correctly? Maybe you can stitch the two better halves of that screenshot together. I heard some good things about DraStic (iOS and Android DS emulator and $5 to own a copy of the software). --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 21:29, 12 January 2017 (EST)

| :Honestly, I don't think many articles exist with files using the <code>Media:</code> prefix. I might be wrong though. I could only verify that [[Nintendo Switch]] and [[Electrodrome]] used it. | :Sure, a history section would be good. If you're referencing information from that Chinese webpage, I think it's best to include the sentence in its original Chinese as part of the reference (so people can easily compare their own translation if necessary). When an entire section on the wiki can apply to a single reference, what I normally do is use the reference after the first sentence. And then at the end of each paragraph thereafter. This way, readers don't have to go back to the first part of the section if they wanted to view the reference again. The <nowiki><ref name=></nowiki> code should also be used if the references are exactly the same, so that they are grouped together and not coded as separate references.

If I'm not too annoying, would you able to tell what the downloads are for? Automatic translations aren't giving anything comprehensible. --[[User:Glowsquid|Glowsquid]] ([[User talk:Glowsquid|talk]]) 22:27, 28 January 2017 (EST)

| Hi there. Sorry about the slight delay in responding to you.

| I've seen Wildgoosespeeder lately uploading native resolution Nintendo 64 screenshots, which is perfectly acceptable according to policy. The only issue I see is that smaller parts of the image become much more difficult to see. Compare [http://www.mariowiki.com/images/archive/1/11/20170206043834%21FallOntoTheCagedIsland.png this] with [http://www.mariowiki.com/images/1/11/FallOntoTheCagedIsland.png this] for example. But the same could be said about small game sprites, which we always recommend uploading at the correct resolution. But if you were wanting to zoom in and crop a particular part of the image (like an object or character), high quality upscaling should be absolutely okay.

| I'd say that it's not always strictly necessary to convert HD-rendering screenshots to their native hardware resolutions. But it's acceptable to do so.

| :I agree with {{user|Shokora}}. I think I have said somewhere else on this wiki that if you do it to get a {{tem|game-3Drender}} instead of a {{tem|game-screenshot}}, minus HUD elements, that could be a good enough exception to the general rule. At the time, for example, I felt compelled just to leave [[:File:Goomba Village.PNG]] alone compared to the rest of screenshots of [[Goomba Village (place)|Goomba Village]]. Also, I am debating leaving [[:File:SM64 CG Peachscastle.png]] alone as well. Just be sure to avoid common pitfalls as described in [[User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox#Glide64 settings to more closely match real N64 hardware internal resolution|my guide]] and [http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_64_emulators#High-level_vs._low-level_graphics this page] (HL vs. LL graphics and texture filtering). --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 00:17, 9 February 2017 (EST)
