Donkey Kong, "The Big Switch-a-Roo"

A robot built by Cranky Kong appears in the Donkey Kong Country episode "The Big Switch-a-Roo". The robot has a Kong-like appearance with a toaster on its head. This robot is built for Bluster to help make barrels for him. After Donkey Kong arrives at Cranky's Cabin (after jumping out of Funky's plane), one of Cranky's brain transfer helmets lands on the robot's head. Later, DK attempts to mimic Klump by wearing one of the brain transfer helmets, accidentally pressing the button on the helmet when saluting, causing his and the robot's "brain" to switch, though DK does not notice this. Cranky and Bluster soon discover this while the former searches for him. Bluster decides to use the robot, DK's body, to make barrels. However, his plan goes poorly as the robot quickly presses the buttons at Bluster Barrelworks. It appears to be literal-minded as it attempts to snap his neck after he claims it is a "pain in the neck."

DK (while in the robot's body) eventually finds Diddy, explaining his predicament to him in a song. They both return to Cranky, realizing that DK's original body is gone, working for Bluster. Klump and Krusha eventually arrive at the cabin, with DK attempting to fight them. However, Krusha breaks his head off, and Cranky cannot fix it. Bluster and the robot in DK's body return to the cabin after the Kongs (with Diddy holding the head of the robot that DK's brain is in) leave to raid K. Rool's hideout. The robot is then under Klump's control while in Candy's body. Both K. Rool and Krusha return to see this, though K. Rool finds it useless, telling it to "go make a barrel." The robot attempts to make a barrel with K. Rool in it, trapping him. The Kongs then arrive back, and eventually, DK returns to his original body. Bluster demands a refund for the robot, stating it to be "dumber than DK."

Differences from the Donkey Kong Country games

  • None of the musical themes from the games appears; the soundtrack either consists of original music or public domain tracks.
  • Donkey Kong is depicted as bipedal rather than walking on fours.
  • The banana hoard never appears in the series. The Crystal Coconut serves a similar MacGuffin as K. Rool and his minions attempt to steal it in a similar way.
  • Cranky is never stated to be DK's grandfather, with the latter referring to Cranky by his name, rather than a family title. Likewise, the series never states him to be the original Donkey Kong. "Ape Foo Young" depicts a younger Cranky, not resembling any previous youthful appearance of him.
  • Cranky does not have hair on his head and instead, has white eyebrows. He also does not wear spectacles.
  • Candy Kong looks different from her appearance in the first game, not wearing a pink bikini, but instead a tank-top with shorts, sandals (rather than being barefoot), and having a different hairstyle that is shorter with a headband and orange hair, rather than being blonde and having a bow.
  • Funky Kong has blonde fur rather than brown, wears black goggles instead of sunglasses. He has no necklace.
  • Dixie Kong has a different design than she does in her first appearance. Her fur is brighter to a yellow-like color rather than brown and wears a green blouse with a daisy on it. She also lacks eyelashes and her face shape appears is closer in design to Diddy's; Dixie's face in the games has a different shape from Diddy's. Her beret lacks the Rare logo.
  • Swanky Kong and Wrinkly Kong do not appear.
  • Kremlings are never referred to by name, being generically referred to as "lizards", "gators", and similar terms. Kritters and Klaptraps are properly referred by their names, however.
  • Klaptraps are depicted as bipedal, rather than on fours like an actual crocodilian. They are also depicted as ammo, being shot from guns; Klaptraps and similar entities walk on the ground and are not shot. They also have a habit of eating, which aside from their biting attacks, is a trait that did not happen in prior games.
  • Not all Kremlings are part of K. Rool's group, with Kaptain Skurvy and his two minions being members and occasionally enemies of K. Rool, rather than allies.
  • No other enemies appear such as Gnawties or Neckies.
  • The Animal Friends are absent.
  • Donkey Kong Island is named Kongo Bongo Island or simply, Kongo Bongo.
  • The series has various locations that are vaguely inspired by the ones in the first game.
  • The Gangplank Galleon never appears in the series, with K. Rool lacking a pirate motif. Kaptain Skurvy's ship appears to take inspiration from said ship.
  • Cranky's home takes place in a forest and does not resemble the cabin that appears in any previous game.
  • King K. Rool does not wear a gold chestplate and has a regular chest, similar to his later appearances. Neither one of his eyes are bloodshot by default, although they do enlarge depending on his emotions and become bloodshot in "Ape Foo Young". He also has no tail.
