The Toad's Automoboots mechanic is a minor character in Paper Mario: The Origami King, one of the various Toads found throughout the game in need of rescue. In this case, he is one of the two Toads trapped in the Breezy Tunnel, likely to be the one rescued sooner. The Toad mechanic is a minor character in Paper Mario: The Origami King. He is one of various Toads in need of rescue throughout the game; in this case, he is one of the two hidden Toads in Breezy Tunnel, likely to be the one rescued sooner. At the start of the long stretch between the tunnel, Mario must pull out the Toad stuck underneath the Boot Car. He quickly runs back to his booth and thanks Mario, introducing him to Toad's Automoboots.

He then shows Mario the Boot Car, durable for speed and travel. In return for his rescue, he gives Mario a free test drive as well as a Boot Whistle, allowing Mario to summon the Boot Car from a distance. He tells Mario to keep the Boot Car within the area of Scorching Sandpaper Desert and proceeds to give him some instructions on how to use it, including speeding and steering. This can be used to travel great distances in shorter time and defeat Folded Soldiers without a battle. He simply tells Mario to mind the paint job before sending him off. The Boot Car remains in Mario's possession for the remainder of the game, as well as the Boot Whistle. If Mario tries to leave the tunnel toward Sweetpaper Valley while in the Boot Car, the mechanic prevents him from doing so.

Later, Mario and Olivia find Captain T. Ode in Scorching Sandpaper Desert and, a little later, reencounter him inside Musée Champignon in Toad Town, where he has snuck into his Super Marino submarine that is on display; Captain T. Ode proposes a trade, in which he would give Mario his Sea Chart if the Super Marino is transported to the Great Sea. Sea Captain Toad, who is also inside the museum, overhears the proposal and contacts the mechanic, who comes to Toad Town with his two Monty Mole assistants to attach the submarine to the back of Sea Captain Toad's boat. After visiting Bonehead Island and clearing the fog, Mario receives a notification that a new engine for the boat is available at the Toad Town dock. When Mario returns to Toad Town, the mechanic (now referring to his business as "Toad's Automoboats") and his Monty Mole assistants are already on the dock and will replace the boat's old motor with the new engine in exchange for 5000 coins.
If Mario tries to leave the tunnel toward Sweetpaper Valley while in the Boot Car, the mechanic prevents him from doing so.

During the credits, one of the photos shows the mechanic racing against a Snifit in their respective Boot Cars in Scorching Sandpaper Desert.

The Toad mechanic is identical in appearance to the Sunset Express conductor from Paper Mario: Color Splash.
