It, [[The Lake]], [[The Swamp]], and [[The Jungle]] are among the stages to feature more ''[[Super Mario (franchise)|Super Mario]]'' representation. Nearly all of the enemies in The Cave are ''Super Mario'' enemies, making the level comparable to a side-scrolling level in the [[Super Mario (series)|''Super Mario'' series]]. The first playthrough of The Cave features two ''Super Mario'' fighters, [[Mario]] and [[Yoshi]], and three others representing a different series: [[Pit (character)|Pit]] from ''[[icaruspedia:Kid Icarus (series)|Kid Icarus]]''; [[Link]] from ''[[zeldawiki:The Legend of Zelda (Series)|The Legend of Zelda]]'', and [[Kirby]] from ''[[wikirby:Kirby (series)|Kirby]]''.


After arriving at [[wikirby:Castle Dedede|Castle Dedede]], Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, Link, and Pit find a cave behind a broken wall in the throne room. Assuming [[smashwiki:King Dedede (SSBB)|King Dedede]] fled into the caverns, they follow it. When they reach the end of the cave, they find not King Dedede, but [[Bowser]] instead. Mario proceeds to attack the Koopa king only to back off after seeing that Bowser is using [[Princess Peach|Peach]]/[[Zelda]]'s [[Trophy (Super Smash Bros. series)|trophy]] as a shield. Pit fires an arrow at Bowser, who dodges it but falls off a cliff. He comes back in his [[Koopa Clown Car]] cackling at the group as he flees to the [[wikirby:Halberd|Halberd]] with his prize. Kirby goes to inspect the Dedede badge that fell off of Peach/Zelda's trophy.
