I see that [[Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:{{PAGENAME}}|this template]] isn't used very much. I think there is some potential for this to be reused once again. I see this very similarly to {{tem|image}} and {{tem|More images}}, and we use these all the time. A lot of games are lacking media catalogs (see {{tem|media}} and [[:Category:Media files by game]]). I propose that we revitalize this unused template, but mainly use it for main game pages, such as ''[[Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story]]'' and ''[[Mario Party 8]]'' for two examples of games missing such files. Here's what I had in mind:

Colors and look can be tweaked later. The wording has been changed. Also there is code to ask for specifics, just like {{tem|More images}}. This would apply to lists like [[List of Mario Party media]] because not all media is there (see [[Juke Box]]).

Why not just upload the files anyways that we know are missing? I am not always available and don't know what games qualify. Also, we need to track what is missing, which is what we do with the mentioned image templates, so that way someone else can get to it. Also, we have a lot of members unaware we are looking for these files, so we can bring attention to it better this way. If this proposal passes, [[:Category:Articles that need more media]] needs to be created and [[MarioWiki:Maintenance#File maintenance]] needs to be updated.

If this template isn't worth the hassle of being revitalized, then it should be either be [[Special:Log/delete|deleted]] or [[:Category:Abandoned features|abandoned]].

So, continuing with the proposals discouraging drive-by templating, I'd like to suggest a change that can hopefully help square up a problem that's cropped up with that. At the moment, we have two different templates for articles that need more images: [[Template:More images]], which is for articles that have one or two but need a few more, or perhaps have quite a few but need some to illustrate specific things, and [[Template:Image]], which is for articles that need any images to go on them. With the first one, you can easily put a reason on the template, like "More screenshots", "Missing artwork", "Pictures of Bowser Jr. in-game", etc., whereas with the second one, you'd struggle to put a reason much better than "literally anything", which is why we have the separate template without the reason parameter. With this template though, you need to add a reason so you haven't left an empty template, and for articles with no media whatsoever, we're back to "literally anything". That's why I'm suggesting that we create a new version of this template in the vein of Template:Image, for articles that need at least on piece of media so we don't have empty media templates everywhere. As a small other change as well, the wording on this template would be tweaked to explicitly ask for more media, while the other one would be something more along the lines of "One or more pieces of media be uploaded for this page". The new usage page would also specify that it's mostly for use on game pages, as that's where this crops up most often and is usually what it needs to be applied for.

Note: I'm currently not sure what to name this new template, as [[Template:Media]] already exists with a different purpose, so some suggestions would be appreciated. I haven't got anything much better in mind than "no-media" or "media-missing" at the moment.

There's no "Wanted Images/Wanted Media" template, ''at all'', and it's not even listed on the [[MarioWiki:Maintenance#File maintenance|maintenance section]]. This feels like something we should've had a long, long time ago, but we just don't. The only question is, uh, do we also have to add something for this on the Maintenance section, as well? And if so, should we potentially move this proposal elsewhere than just a template's talk page? This feels like it has the potential to have ramifications that are something a little too important to be shuffled over here, basically. ;p

@Camwood777 I don't know if we need to move it necessarily, but you are right, it probably will need a new section on the Maintenance page, I didn't think of that, so thank you. I don't think adding it in will be that complicated though- much like the whole idea for this template, I think we can just mirror what has been done with the Image template- A new line can be added kind of like this (This is just a quick mockup by the way):<br>

And the wording on the current media line can be amended slightly to remove the reference to pages requiring at least one piece of media.
