| The wiki currently recognizes only a Yoshi's Island series, to which Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Woolly World, and the other platformers without "Island" in their names are merely related to, but not actually part of the same series. I think this is a pedantic view of the Yoshi games, and it's inconsistent with how the wider Super Mario games are treated. | | The wiki currently recognizes only a Yoshi's Island series, to which Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Woolly World, and the other platformers without "Island" in their names are merely related to, but not actually part of the same series. | #Jdtendo YS, YWW and YCW should absolutely be considered part of a Yoshi series. YTT and YT&G feel more like spinoffs to me.
| | |
| #Camwoodstock Primary choice, may add in a secondary option depending on how others vote? But either way, after this was brought up in the Discord, we've been unable to unsee it. Something here clearly has to be done, and this is a step in the right direction.

| #Super Mario RPG Per all.

| #Arend There was a proposal a while ago that determined that the platformer titles should be considered as part of the Yoshi's Island games, which I was all for. I also stated in the comments that Tetris Attack should be considered as part of the Yoshi's Island series as a spinoff, given that it makes use of all the characters and environments from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (whereas other puzzle games and Yoshi's Safari instead made use of the core Mario franchise characters and environments).

| #Rykitu Per PopitTart
| |
| #EvieMaybe per Arend, we should include Tetris Attack as well.
| |
| #Nintendo101 Secondary choice.
| |
| #Kaptain Skurvy Yeah. Games like Yoshi's Story not being at least present in a "Related" section has bugged me for a while.

| #Nintendo101 A Yoshi's Island (series) does exist... it just exists <u>within</u> Yoshi series, in the same manor that there is a Super Mario Bros. series within the mainline Super Mario series. The term "series" has no innate categorical meaning. While I do think their concrete, demonstrably similarities are far more important than what the publisher has recognized (because, frankly, Nintendo has not clearly outlined how they categorize all of their games anyway), there have been primary sources refer to a "Yoshi series" that includes the Yoshi's Island games and Yoshi's Story, so while I think this is less important than the organic mechanical and structural similarities between these games, it is at least attested by them.
| | #Super Mario RPG This would make it a lot less complicated. |

| Series classification should always be based on how it is officially rather than how we'd rather see it ourselves, and as much as I agree that the idea of Baby Mario's presence defining what games count is weird, it has official basis. The Yoshi's Woolly World ad is as far as I know the only time we've seen official acknowledgement of a Yoshi series that includes Story and Woolly World, though the inclusion of Crafted World is still a bit of a guess. The other two games that are never officially considered part of any such series (and that existed as of that Woolly World ad) should definitely not be counted as mainline, they're different from Super Mario Run because Nintendo has gone on record counting that game as a mainline entry. However this proposal goes, the article should probably do a better job explaining this situation. 05:04, March 12, 2025 (EDT)

| I'm presuming that the above proposal also applies to categories and identifiers (though that could probably just be the game title). Anything that could cause potential conflict on that front? LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:34, April 4, 2025 (EDT)
| |
| :Yes, It would apply to those as well. Though, why is the latter identified as series to begin with? It's only in SMW2 and it's port.--PopitTart (talk) 12:44, April 4, 2025 (EDT)
