| The Nintendo Player's Guide for Super Mario 64 consistently refers to the "Warp Pipes" in Tiny-Huge Island as Shrinker Pipes. I think that this is cause to make it into its own article, as, though it looks the same as a Warp Pipe, it has a completely different effect. | | The Nintendo Player's Guide for Super Mario 64 consistently refers to the "Warp Pipes" in Tiny-Huge Island as Shrinker Pipes. | Likewise Nintendo don't use a D-pad or d-pad but a (huge white plus icon, or maybe white crux quadrata)Control pad, Control Pad (in Game Boy, not GameBoy, material), or +Control Pad (in newer material), besides arrow buttons. A D-pad sounds like a bunch of D buttons, like D1, D2, etc. You could call the + pad the arrow pad. | :Well, this is something I've been meaning to bring up: Warp Pipes are sometimes called pipes, but regular, non-transporting pipes are never called Warp Pipes, if I'm not mistaken. | :Additionally, Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros. only attributes the name 「ワープ土管」 (Warp Pipe) to the ones in the Warp Zone, and uses 「土管」 (pipe) to refer to both decorative and traveling ones. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:53, December 14, 2021 (EST)

| ::If this is about splitting warp pipe from pipe then I'm going to have to oppose. Not only are they visually identical, share a name most of the time, and have only one functional difference(warping vs. not warping), someone searching for a pipe article is most likely just going to search one of the 2 terms and expect to find any pipe, not specifically the warping/non-warping ones. | :::The takeaway is that the wiki currently defines "Warp Pipe" incorrectly: all warp pipes are pipes, but not all pipes are warp pipes. LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:09, March 10, 2022 (EST)

| The blue "pipe" item is apparently the only pipe in Mario Pinball Land, and blue pipes in the early Paper Mario games are just color variants used to distinguish the sewer shortcut pipes from the other pipes in the game. Plus, there are blue pipes in other games like Partners in Time that aren't split. | | The blue "pipe" item is apparently the only pipe in Mario Pinball Land, and blue pipes in the early Paper Mario games are just color variants used to distinguish the sewer shortcut pipes from the other pipes in the game. | == Rename to "Pipe" ==
| |
| Shouldn't this page be renamed? "Warp Pipe" isn't used nearly as often, and most major in-game appearances that actually bother to name then simply call them "pipes". Off the top of my head, both Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and the Super Mario Maker games simply refer to them as pipes. Furthermore, not all pipes actually let you travel to other locations, so the name isn't really fitting. | :I'm pretty sure Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is the only game I recall the "Warp Pipe" name being used, referring to the ones used to fast travel around Pi'illo Island. 14:31, January 2, 2024 (EST)

| ::A pretty recent instance of "Warp Pipe" in official media is in this news article on nintendo.com: "Navigate an underground network of Warp Pipes and watch for Piranha Plants in new course Piranha Plant Pipeline!"<br>Just throwing this out there. I'm all for moving the article to "Pipe", though. 18:51, February 1, 2024 (EST)

| :::Yeah, and this would help acknowledge the fact that the main pipes in the Super Mario franchise aren't generic, but rather a specific kind. Super Mario RPG (talk) 18:54, February 1, 2024 (EST)

| ::::I agree with BubbleRevolution. Why call every pipe a "Warp Pipe" if only some pipes actually warp you? 16:08, April 4, 2024 (EDT)

| I forgot when I left my previous comment that Paper Mario: The Origami King also uses the name "Warp Pipe", though primarily for the Musee Champignon pipes which role is similar to the Dream Team Warp Pipes. 17:29, April 4, 2024 (EDT)

| Wouldn't it be a better idea to split Pipe from Warp Pipe instead, then? Not all pipes do let you warp, but the term "Warp Pipe" has still been in use as late as last year, so... 12:56, April 14, 2024 (EDT)

| :As I've mentioned here, it seems that "Warp Pipe" was supposed to be "Warp Zone" Pipes or ones that travel great distances. I don't know if they refer to any (usually under/above-ground) transporting pipe. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:38, April 15, 2024 (EDT)

| Well in Super Mario Party Jamboree the item's name is pipe, and as BubbleRevolution said the term warp pipe isn't used as much. I literally can't recall a single time anyone used warp pipe and not pipe. So yeah the article should be renamed.
