:Bumping this, I'll point out that the Japanese name is very similar to Kamekku, or Magikoopa, as well as Tutankhamen, suggesting a portmanteau. The problem? It could always just mean "turtle" instead of trying to invoke Kamekku. This guy indeed uses magic and is built like a Magikoopa both in stature and sprite, but his lack of glasses is far enough removed, I figured I should ask. ::Well, the lack of glasses is offset by his eyes being covered by his headdress. He also lacks a shell like Koopa Troopas. I think being related to Magikoopas isn't that far of a stretch. 23:27, 22 November 2017 (EST)

:::well, lacked a visible shell....Kamek states he has a shell in Partners in Time....Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:41, 22 November 2017 (EST)
::::I don't think there's enough evidence to definitively call him a Magikoopa. He uses magic, yes, but all Magikoopas use wands, while Tutankoopa does not, and IIRC Tutankoopa does not use anything resembling the "Playstation symbol" spell typically associated with Magikoopas. Tutankoopa also lacks visible fangs, which Magikoopas have. Furthermore, all of the other Paper Mario bosses seem to be related to some enemy found in their area (General Guy is a Shy Guy, Huff N. Puff is a Ruff Puff, etc.) except for the Crystal King, who isn't based on anything. No Magikoopas appear in Dry Dry Ruins though, so there's nothing really connecting him to them. The only Koopas that do appear there are Buzzy Beetles, and Tutankoopa's definitely not a Buzzy Beetle. 23:55, 22 November 2017 (EST)
:::::Still more of a Magikoopa than what appears to be a Fly Guy in a Magikoopa mask, to be honest. Kamek->Kamen <s>Rider</s>. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:05, 23 November 2017 (EST)
:::::Also, I'm pretty sure that the various non-projectile magicks used by the variously-colored Magikoopas in the games, such as the boosting and invisibility ones, lacked any geometric shapes resembling miscolored buttons for Sony system controllers. ::::::I agree with Doc that Tutankoopa is a Magikoopa. It is true that other bosses are more obvious about their species, but even in their case, their species isn't directly mentioned (General Guy, for example, is never mentioned as being a Shy Guy although he is one, ostensibly). Tutankoopa matches much of the criteria for being a Magikoopa: he uses magic, has no defense, no visible shell, a hat, a robe, can teleport, and doesn't show the whites of his eyes. I think it's safe to say he's a Magikoopa. Blue Ninjakoopa (talk) 17:59, 4 March 2019 (EST)
:::::::I disagree with Tutankoopa being called a Magikoopa. The only evidence I've seen is that he uses magic, and his Japanese name *may* be derived from "Kamek" (or "turtle"). Personally, I don't think that's enough to go on. 06:11, July 9, 2019 (EDT)
::::::::I'm not sure about which one it is based off of. -- 06:20, July 9, 2019 (EDT)
:::::::::I'm inclined to believe it's a "kame" pun, given that Tutankoopa has nothing in common with Magikoopas otherwise. 06:28, July 9, 2019 (EDT)
::::::::::He has the right ultra-hooked beak and fat, robed body as well. Worth noting is that most Magikoopa magic in the game other than "direct blast" type doesn't use the "Playstation button" thing. Not even Kammy's does. ::::::::::Bumping this. I've been playing through again, and the chapter end text labels him as "Tutankoopa the Wizard" (the game's capitalization), which indicates his magic use is intended as integral to his character (and reminds me of a "Kamek the Wizard" poster from later in MKAGP2). As for not being representative of the enemies immediately prior, the game uses the Chomps (representing the Stone Chomps) and the shells he throws (representing Buzzy Beetles) for that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:28, September 16, 2021 (EDT)
:::::::::::Looking at this again, I'm inclined to agree with you. Tutankoopa definitely seems like a Magikoopa. 22:48, September 16, 2021 (EDT)
::::::::::::I'm still skeptical. Have you checked the Japanese Tattle/other dialogue relating to Tutankoopa? That might shed some light on this. 23:29, September 16, 2021 (EDT)
:::::::::::::Merlon calls him a "Koopa" in one of his fortunes. Considering the game tends to use "Koopa" as short for "Koopa Troopa", one could check the Japanese version of the line to see if he calls him a "Nokonoko". Though it doesn't seem like the kind of line that you'd find on, say, YouTube. I tried looking for Mario Story Dearu, but I guess nobody would want to go through the pain of stopping what they're doing every two steps to go talk to him... Blinker (talk) 17:35, March 26, 2022 (EDT)
::::::::::::::Merlon's Japanese prediction is as follows:<blockquote>いせきのおくの いちばんおく<br>あたらしく あらわれた<br>かいだんを おりるのであ~る<br>ずーっと 下に おりた先に<br>出ることが できぬ<br>星の光が 見えるのであ~る<br>まちうけるもの いせきをあらすカメ<br>魔法も使うカメを たおし<br>星の光を とりもどすがよい</blockquote>Here, he's referred to as a「カメ」(kame, turtle). This can refer to species/members of the Koopa clan. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:40, March 28, 2022 (EDT)
Regarding the "Tutankoopa the Wizard" thing, not sure how not-a-coincidence this is, but that's「魔法使いカーメン」in the Japanese version. In the story part of Yoshi's Island's Japanese manual, Kamek is referred to as「クッパ王国の魔法使いカメッく」(the English manual says "Kamek, an evil Magikoopa from the Koopa Kingdom"). == Hair ==
Shouldn't it be noted that there's an unused sprite of Tutankoopa without his headdress which show's that he has blond hair? "https://tcrf.net/images/3/3e/PM64_Tutankoopa_NoHeaddress.png" I&#39;manumber1 (talk) 19:57, September 23, 2021 (EDT)
Usurper?
This might be stretch, but the Tattle line "I've heard that he has sort of a pharaoh complex." reads differently in the Japanese version.<blockquote>カーメンだよ<br>クッパの手下で 星のせいを 見はってるんだ<br>オイラが きいたところによると<br>王さまに なりたがってるんだって<br>(This is Khamun. He's Koopa's minion keeping watch on the Star Spirit. From what I've heard, he wants to be king.)</blockquote>Now, this might just be to simplify the idea of a pharoah, but one way you can read it is that he wants to overthrow Bowser as Koopa king. Am I off base here? LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:23, October 18, 2021 (EDT)
:It doesn't seem that way to me at all, it could literally just mean "king of the desert" as he proclaims himself when the ruins are first entered. Either way, this is nothing more than speculation. 13:33, October 18, 2021 (EDT)
