I wonder why there isn't a page for Star Thwomp, i think we should make the page because Star Thwomp is a species of Thwomp.

Okay, so I noticed a bunch of Thwomp-like creatures have "don" in their japanese names (Namely, Donkaku, Donguru, Tsukidashidon, Onimasudon, Donpyon, Donsuke). I was thinking "don" might be derived from "Dossun", is that too much of a stretch? Wallop and Stairface's Chinese and Korean names do seem to be based on Thwomp's. I'm not sure what to conclude. Thoughts? Blinker (talk) 17:22, November 30, 2021 (EST)

And now Slidon too. Blinker (talk) 15:01, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
:I think it's reasonable to assume such, especially if their behavior is very comparable. 15:05, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
::"Don" is yet another related Japanese "thud" onomatopoeia, so it seems intentional. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:32, November 4, 2023 (EDT)

failed
I get the feeling it's become quite debatable which design of Thwomp to have in the infobox, as it basically has two modern designs: the curved edges one introduced in Super Mario Galaxy, and the more spiked edges one introduced in New Super Mario Bros Wii, and the design used often varies by how Thwomps are treated in the games by if they are safe to touch on the side or not. Personally, I'm not really a huge fan of having both in the infobox together, so I'm making this proposal to come to a decision on what to do, and I have four options on how to go about this.

#Tails777 Second option. If we really wanted to limit it to one image, I don't think it would matter too much which design is used, since they both get used equally.

#SmokedChili Per Tails.
#Killer Moth Second option. Per Tails

#Somethingone Per Doc. Plus, only picking one design regardless of the newest debut on the stance that one occurs more frequently is very misguided; they could easily choose the currently-lesser-used design and make that their most common design for future games.

#Tails777 First option, per Doc.
#Killer Moth Per all. Even if the design changes frequently, the infobox art should be art from their most recent appearance.
#FanOfYoshi In that case, it would depend per location they're set in.
#Shadic 34 Per all. Since Thwomps flip-flop between these two designs very frequently, it's probably for the better to just use both of them for the infobox, instead of having to constantly change it based on what Nintendo feels like using for their games.
#bwburke94 Per all.

Still, in Super Mario Maker 2 it's between the different game styles where the different designs are used, adapting to the original game with its respective design. 09:03, March 16, 2023 (EDT)

:But it still uses the difference of whether it's safe to stand on. An above section says they both appear in Run (I do not know if this is true), but it seems to be becoming a red/green Troopa-type difference, but more distinct than just coloration. As it is, Nintendo seems to have no priority for it. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:51, March 16, 2023 (EDT)

I don't get it. Why are spiked thwomps merged with regular thwomps? Do they have the same Japanese name? Are they to similar!? What's going on!? I'm losing my mind!! 31.104.129.126 16:00, January 1, 2025 (EST)
