| I kinda already said this before, but I will add it here. The plot section of this page is very long and detailed. How would a separate article involving the film's plot work in this case? We also have a lot of screenshots in the film's gallery, which is partly what prompted me to make this proposal and give those screenshots better use beyond being a gallery photo. After all, the Mario Bros. say "neatness counts" and perhaps we can find a solution to avoid all the clutter. {{User:Marino13/sig}} 17:07, May 6, 2023 (EDT) | | I kinda already said this before, but I will add it here. | :While this does sound like a good idea on paper, it doesn't really work in the sense that we don't do things like that on the Super Mario Wiki. Besides, the plot isn't ''that'' long so the best thing we could do is make the plot look neater. | ::Now that I have revisited the article again since that message, I see the plot has been elaborated and expanded even further. While I do support your idea, I still find it excessively long and creating a plot page for the film will work. You just need to look at various other examples. You can have the long portion, and then the summarized plot for this page. Remember, "neatness counts". {{User:Marino13/sig}} 17:18, September 10, 2023 (EDT)

| Officially, Cranky is Junior's father, and (most prominently) [modern] DK's grandfather. In the movie, they just cut the middle man for simplicity, and not to follow any canon (a bit like Brooklyn, even tho the recent games are pretty clear that the Marios were always part of the "Mushroom World"). Although, I want to point out that in the Italian version of the two books (Official Storybook and Mario's Big Adventure), DK is referred to as Cranky's grandson (I presume due to the movie material not revealing yet their relationship, so the translator went with the game version). {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 19:29, May 7, 2023 (EDT) | | Officially, Cranky is Junior's father, and (most prominently) [modern] DK's grandfather. | :First, the incorrect use of capitalization is making it difficult to comprehend what you're saying, so I'll try to respond to the best of my ability. I don't think DK's knowledge or lack of thereof of the name of the Mushroom is relevant information to mention. Finally, [[Spiny Shell (blue)|Spiny Shell]] is a consistently established name in the series, though "Blue Shell" is a very common colloquial use of the term; additionally there are named [[Blue Shell]]s but they're blue-colored Koopa Shells that range from a a simple color (''Super Mario World'') to a wearable powerup (''New Super Mario Bros.'') to freeze-inducing projectiles (''Mario Strikers''). The Koopa General yells "Blue Shell" in reference to the colloquial use; i.e. it's more easily understood by the audience. {{User:Mario/sig}} 20:07, June 8, 2023 (EDT)

| == Fire Peach Trivia ==
| |
|
| |
| Should we mention in the "References in Later Media" section that in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Fire Peach wears her hair down instead of in a ponytail like in the movie? I'm not sure that it's necessary, because it's already mentioned on the Super Mario Bros. Wonder page, but I was just wondering. -- [[User:FanOfRosalina2007|FanOfRosalina2007]] ([[User talk:FanOfRosalina2007|talk]]) 23:14, November 12, 2023 (EST)

| :I added this info. Please let me know if I should change it/add a reference. -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 01:11, November 19, 2023 (EST)
| |
| ::The information appears to be removed.[https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=The_Super_Mario_Bros._Movie&diff=4054579&oldid=4054575] In Smash Ultimate, Peach has an alternate recolor that resembles her fire form, and she wears her hair down. {{User:Mario/sig}} 01:40, November 19, 2023 (EST)
| |
| :::Yeah, but it's an alternate costume. It's not really Fire Peach, the costume was just inspired by Fire Peach. She can't throw fireballs in the costume. I play Smash Ultimate, and she actually can't throw fireballs no matter what her costume is. It's not in her moveset. And I was talking about Super Mario Bros. Wonder, where she wears her hair down in her Fire form. I can add the Smash Ultimate information if you want, but in all due respect, I don't think it really qualifies as Fire Peach. Also, why did Sdman213 remove my part about Super Mario Bros. Wonder? It's real information, and she does wear her hair down in that form in the game. But just tell me what to do and I'll do it. I'm new, so I don't really have experience in editing. -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 12:01, November 19, 2023 (EST)
| |
| ::::Smash Ultimate isn't shy about some model alterations to fit alternate colors though. But I also don't think Smash Ultimate really bothered tying Peach's hair back compared to editing Pikachu's tail for the female Pikachu alts. That being said, I don't think the hair style is a reference to the movie but I guess it's worth noting in the [[Fire Mario]] page. {{User:Mario/sig}} 17:46, November 19, 2023 (EST)
| |
| :::::I agree with you. The alternate costume is not a movie reference (not purposefully, anyway) because Smash Ultimate was released before the movie was. We could put it in the Fire Mario page if you think it's necessary, but in all due respect, I don't think we should add this particular trivia to The Super Mario Bros. Movie's page. Also, may I re-add my information about Fire Peach in Super Mario Bros. Wonder that was removed? It is a movie reference, after all. If you say yes, I'll add it back in, but if it's removed again, I won't re-add it again. I don't want to start an edit war, especially because I'm new. What are your thoughts? -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 13:39, November 20, 2023 (EST)

| == Trivia ==
| |
|
| |
| Hi! I was watching the movie today and I noticed something that was different from the games. When Mario first tries the Training Course, he falls through brick blocks into the water. When he hits the water, he shrinks from Super Mario to Small Mario, even though he didn't hit a Cheep Cheep or anything else that would hurt him. Peach then remarks, "Oh, yeah!...if you get hit, you lose the power," even though Mario didn't hit an enemy. It doesn't make any sense. Can I add this to the "Differences from the Games" section? -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 13:51, November 20, 2023 (EST)
| |
|
| |
| :Well, not really. Even if movies taught us otherwise, diving from a big height in water is still dangerous, if not deadly (imagine diving belly first, it would hurt even from small heights). This is the same logic. Also, it can be taken as the idea of falling into a pit or, in ''Super Mario Bros.'' (''All-Stars'' version) into a water body from the surface (which wasn't swimmable at the time): losing a life and your power up. {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 17:28, November 20, 2023 (EST)
| |
| ::I was just thinking that because it's different from how falling into water (even from great heights) acts in the games, we could put it there. But if you don't want me to, I won't. Thanks! -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 14:02, November 21, 2023 (EST)

| == Concerning an extended scene ==
| |
|
| |
| In many of the TV spots for the movie, one of the scenes that played was when Mario, Peach, and Toad were walking across the bridge with the Cheep Cheeps. As in the movie, a Cheep Cheep lands on Mario's face. However, in the TV spots, this is extended out to include Peach pulling the Cheep Cheep off Mario's face, with the Cheep Cheep then landing on Toad's head instead. This version of the scene was cut from the movie. Should we mention this? Or, more importantly, did anyone else notice this oddity? -- {{User:FanOfRosalina2007/sig}} 23:07, February 6, 2024 (EST)

| The "References to other media" section is one of the longest sections on this article, and takes up a tremendous amount of space. Not to mention, all of the information is very cramped together and is very hard to read and navigate. That is why I'm proposing that the section should be moved into its own article. [[User:RetroNintendo2008/TSMBM references|I have made a work-of-concept article on my sandbox]] to give an idea of what a more ideal method would look like. The work-of-concept sorts each piece of media via sections, with each individual reference being organised by bullet points, complete with images from [[Gallery:The Super Mario Bros. Movie|the film's gallery page]] to demonstrate most points. Should this proposal be accepted, the work-of-concept will be moved into the mainspace and the "References to other media" section will be replaced with a {{[[Template:Main|main]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki> link. {{User:RetroNintendo2008/sig}} 11:24, August 6, 2024 (EDT)

| == Mario and Luigi’s… sibling? ==
| |
|
| |
| So, I’m fluent in Portuguese and I recently watched the Mario Movie in English with Portuguese subtitles and in the part when [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] are entering their home, the subtitles say:
| |
|
| |
| “-Mãe, fizeste isto?<br>-Saiu bem, não saiu?<br>-Porque não fazes assim?”
| |
|
| |
| Here’s the translation:
| |
|
| |
| “-Mom, did you do this?<br>-Turned out good, didn’t it?<br>-Why don’t you do it like this?”
| |
|
| |
| So, the “Turned out good” sounded like [[Mama Mario|Mama]], and someone saying mom… didn’t make sense. As far as we know, Mama is the only mother in the family in the movie. So, the third Mario brother (presumably the [[Mario and Luigi's niece|niece]]’s father (it was a guy talking)) was probably in the kitchen, with Mama, and never came out during dinner. And the subtitles weren’t auto-generated. They were made by someone. So, I dunno, just, like, mention this in the main article, or something. [[User:Weegie baby|Weegie baby]] ([[User talk:Weegie baby|talk]]) 05:25, December 8, 2024 (EST)
| |
|
| |
| :The English subtitles for my version (Amazon Prime) claims [[Uncle Arthur|Arthur]] is the one talking to mom.
| |
| ::“Arthur: Ma, did you make these?<br>Mom: Ah, good batch, eh?<br>Arthur: Why don’t you make it like this?”
| |
| :It's weird that he would call his sister-in-law his mother. It's likely is that it was from an earlier version of the script that was negligently left unchanged when the family relations were different. I think the niece was suppose to be a first cousin at some point.--[[User:Platform|Platform]] ([[User talk:Platform|talk]]) 06:50, December 8, 2024 (EST)

| :::Wait, I just realised Mama’s name is Mama Mia Mario, first name Mama. If so, Arthur was just using a nickname or something. {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 08:22, December 8, 2024 (EST)
| |
|
| |
| ::::No, first name is Mia, "Mama" is just a nickname to make a "Mamma mia" joke. BUT... being Italian, I can safely say it's not unusual to refer to someone with their "family role" even if it's incorrect with their point of view (example, a parent calling his own father/father-in-law "grandpa"): Mia might be Arthur's sister-in-law, but since she is mostly referred as "Mama" by her kids, he would use the same name, despite actually being siblings in-laws. Also, we do know "Mama" and "Papa" are actual nicknames (again, to make a "Mamma Mia" joke out of their names), so it's safe to say it's that in the Portuguese subtitles. --{{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 10:04, December 8, 2024 (EST)

| :::::EXCUSE ME?!?!?! SINCE WHEN IS MAMA'S NAME "MIA"?!?!?! Mama’s first name is Mama. Just accept it. {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 13:59, December 8, 2024 (EST)
| |
|
| |
| ::::::Mama isn't a name anywhere, it's a family role; Mia is an actual name; and Mario we know it's the surname (which, I can confirm, it's also a real-life surname here in Italy). Full (legal) name: Mia Rigassi Mario, aka Mama Mia Mario ("get it? "Mammamia"?"). It's not a matter of accepting it: it's a logical reasoning. Nothing forbids me from being wrong, of course, but with what we know now, "Mama" definitely sounds like a nickname, not the first name. I mean... I doubt Grandma and Grampa Rigassi used the Smurf logic by giving her a name that would be fitting for her role. With ''your'' logic, [[Aunt Luigeena|Luigeena]]'s first name is "Aunt". {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 06:30, December 9, 2024 (EST)

| :::::::With my logic, Luigeena's first name isn't aunt. But Mama's name is Mama Mia Mario. Full name. If Luigeena's infobox said "Full name: Aunt Luigeena", I'd likely thik her first name is Aunt, but since it doesn't say that, I don't. And Mama's maiden name isn't in her name anymore. Last year, I put "Mama Mia Rigassi Mario" on her infobox and Mario jc deleted it. And since you're itallian, tell me: doesn't Mia mean "Mine" (as in "That cake is mine" for example)? {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 09:12, December 9, 2024 (EST)

| ::::::::Possibly because Rigassi is only canon in the show: the games have officially never revealed her maiden name, so we can't actually put it as her (official) full name. Better example to make is... [[Tails]]: everyone calls him "Tails" despite being a nickname and his full name being "Miles Prower", or [[Dr. Eggman]]. With the same logic, "Mama Mia" has become her most used/known name, despite "Mama" being pretty obviously a nickname. Yeah, "mia" is also the Italian "my"/"mine" in feminine form, but it is also a given name in Latin-derived languages. Words as names aren't news in any languages: "Aurora" (sunrise), "Dawn" (sunset), "Faith"/"Hope" ('nuff said), "Celeste" (sky-blue), "Pine" (a litteral tree), "Ash" (cinder)... Pio (Papa Mario's name), per se, it is also the Italian onomatopoeia for the chick's chirping, and is also the Italian word for "pious", but doesn't negate its nature as an Italian given male name, just like Mia. But "Mama" is... not one of these cases: it means "Mom", it's just a word said in an Italian-ish way for a pun, like most nicknames tend to do. Most definitely not a given name. {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 12:45, December 9, 2024 (EST)

| :::::::::Ok. But now that you're "talking", I'm actually starting to doubt if "Mama" is Mama's name or not. And if you can answer this well, I'll believe that "Mia" is her name: the Mario series has weird names. "Midbus", "Kamek", "Bowser", etc. And even humans: Peach, {{hover|[[Kid]]|The name of this subject isn't conjectural and has been officially confirmed}}, 5-Volt, etc. So, explain it. {{User:Weegie baby/sig}} 15:44, December 9, 2024 (EST)

| ::::::::::Simple: the Marios were originally created as people from a real-life location ([[New York]]) with roots from a real-life place ([[Italy]]), before retconing in ''[[Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]'' that they are actually native from the [[Mushroom Kingdom]] and that the "New York" they were talking about in previous games was either [[New Donk City]], [[Big Ape City]] and/or [[Big-City]]. Before that, of course the "Real World humans" (such as Stanley) would have normal realistic names, while the "aliens of the Mushroom World" (such as Peach Toadstool) would have unusual/fantastical names, which most of them derives from a Japanese rework of actual names or from real-life names (there are people called "Peaches" and I do know that "Bowser" is a pet-name for dogs and we do know a guy that has "Bowser" as a [[Doug Bowser|surname]]). {{User:Mariuigi_Khed/sig}} 18:25, December 9, 2024 (EST)

| {{@|Weegie baby}} I think you're talking this "Mama Mia Mario is her full name" thing a bit too literally. I think it'd make more sense to treat the "Mama" part as a ''title'' rather than as her first name (y'know, because you tend to call your own parents things such as "mama", "papa", "mom", "dad", "mum", "pops", etc, rather than their actual first name). It's like how Peach's full name is "Princess Peach Toadstool"; "Princess" is her title. If we're treating the "Mama" in Mama Mia Mario's name as her actual first name ''instead'' of a title, then by that logic, Peach's first name should be "Princess" instead. {{User:Arend/sig}} 15:52, December 9, 2024 (EST)
