Hey, hold on; I'm not sure what others think, but maybe we shouldn't put this on the actual article until it's officially confirmed. Yes I agree that these silhouettes exist and are these characters, but I don't like putting on things til they're officially confirmed.

Hey, I was sleeping when this was announced, can someone please put on the page whatever on earth an "echo fighter" is? Is that like a moveset clone or something? == Stages ==

GameXplain started a mini "analysis machine", which lists all the stages they saw in the Smash Ultimate part of the E3 Direct and the Character trailers in the official website.

I found information that "This game supports all of the Amiibo of the Fighters, even if they are from another series", on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUe9D7imX-E&feature=youtu.be&t=39m56s (It's on Spanish) but i don't know where to put the information. 08:37, 19 June 2018 (EDT)

Missing Items
In the Super Smash Bros Ultimate website, if you go to the "About" tab and then scroll down, you see some sort of grid of items, assist trophies, and Pokemon. That grid has the Franklin Badge and the Screw Attack in it, yet they're not shown in the items list. Can someone please add them? 24.6.217.5 19:49, 22 June 2018 (Can you please tell me what "EDT" means? I'm guessing it means edit.)

:I've added them, thanks for the catch. EDT is part of the timestamp in the signature and stands for Eastern Daylight Time. 23:02, 22 June 2018 (EDT)

Missing stages
There are some stages that appear in the backgrounds of some fighters in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate website but don't appear in the stages list in this game, as shown by GameXplain. The links to the videos that show those stages are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ81QsJqLA4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF-yNJJOUWU. The stages are Brinstar, Venom, Jungle Japes, Reset Bomb Forest, and Palutena's Temple.

:Also, Battlefield and Final Destination shouldn't be listed as returning stages, as some people consider all the Battlefields and Final Destinations from the different games to be different stages and SmashWiki lists them as new stages.
24.6.217.5 21:39, 3 July 2018 (PDT)

:Okay, they've been added. As for Battlefield and FD, it's tricky to categorise those (they have new designs, but they're not unfamiliar stages either), but the list is just temporary until we know the final stage order, and they are technically originally from the first Smash Bros. 08:06, 4 July 2018 (EDT)

Classic Mode
First of all, it's not very prudent to add a table that's 95% empty (and up to 85% empty even if we add what information we know from videos). It's better to wait until the game is released and then add this information. Besides, it takes up way too much space and the format could use improvements. For example, the bonus round looks to be identical between characters, so why would this need a column? It's also ironic that the most unique part of the mode - the names of each route - don't even have a space on this table. This needs to be refined before we publish this onto the main page. For now, the coding has been moved to my Talk page. MarioComix (talk) 19:38, 22 November 2018 (EST)

Adding Pages for Leaked Bosses/Content
Should I do that now? I've added any remaining bosses to the navbox that weren't there already (based on Smash Wiki's article on the game), but I'm not sure the best way to proceed with some of them. Is there a generic bosses article for the ones that probably don't deserve a page for themselves, like Marx? Should Ganon be included with Ganondorf's article?

And does Dharkon need an article now, given Galeem has one?

Fifth or sixth game?
I need an answer to this: Is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the fifth Smash game, or the sixth? Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U are officially grouped by Nintendo as Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, thus suggesting they are indeed, the fourth game in the series. The Smash community - as well as the gaming community as a whole - refers to them as Super Smash Bros. 4 and SSB4. Heck, even if our wiki doesn't accept these shorthands, we still end up using them in categories and templates for navigations. Where am I going with this? Well, even though both versions have identical rosters of playable characters, they were both released on different dates - albeit in the same year - and have differences in many areas, such as: graphics/gameplay resolution, game modes, trophy descriptions, and even knockback values for characters' attacks. The 3DS version supports up to 6 players playing together and has a much smaller soundtrack than the Wii U version; this is vice-versa for the Wii U version, which can support 8 players. The 3DS version was released before the Wii U version; in SmashWiki's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate article, the introductory paragraph says: "This is the fifth (sixth if counting both versions of Smash 4 as separate games) game in the Super Smash Bros. series." Should I completely go along with it being the fifth game? MarioManiac1981 (talk) 18:47, July 22, 2019 (EST)

Table for Fighters
Since it says up the top of the page "rewritten and expanded", and "as well as character descriptions", it makes me think if we should replace the simple pictures for each fighter for a comprehensive table listing each fighter with their render, number, series, specials, Final Smash, and official description.

:Ideally, I'd rather see a table closer to the one we use for Smash 4 (and maybe apply this to the other Smash games so we have some consistency). Having the fighters be in rows in the same table doesn't allow for any distinction between fighter types like we have now. Also, if we don't have enough fighters to have exactly 4 in each row, there's the potential for it to look somewhat ugly at the end because there would be blank spaces, and DLC could mess this up further since we don't know how many we're getting at this point. -- 19:39, November 21, 2019 (EST)

:::I'm fine with this table as long as we get rid of the "#" signs and as long as we have an official description for every fighter. MarioComix (talk) 23:34, November 21, 2019 (EST)
::::The descriptions were not made by myself, they were officially written for each fighter on the Super Smash Bros Blog on the game's official site. Gameboy2345 (talk) 02:03, November 22, 2019 (EST)
:::::Exactly, as long as every fighter has some kind of official description we can pull from somewhere, and we don't write up any on our own, then it's fine imo. MarioComix (talk) 02:10, November 22, 2019 (EST)
:::::I actually considered adding the Smash Blog bios for the descriptions when I was sandboxing a possible revamp for the section a while back, so I'm fine with this as well. (Since they're quoted text, they should be italicised.) 03:53, November 22, 2019 (EST)
::::::For starters, the sandboxed table revamp looks good to me and I am OK with that as well. Anything else we could add to the table or is there enough information? Gameboy2345 (talk) 07:36, November 22, 2019 (EST)
:::::::This looks good, no suggestions from me other than agreeing with removing the # signs. However, I'd like to point out that certain moves like Counter are disambiguation pages, and should link to the proper sections for each fighter instead. I personally prefer this table to the one in Mario jc's sandbox. -- 12:37, November 22, 2019 (EST)
::::::::Just got rid of the # signs for each of the fighters, I will replace the links for the counters in a later edit. In the meantime there are some more profiles above. Gameboy2345 (talk) 06:33, November 25, 2019 (EST)

Someone is saying we have to make original descriptions for characters, but why? If other games (like the Mario & Sonic games) have to have descriptions that present either in-game or on an official website, what's this game's excuse? PrPro03 (talk) 08:47, May 24, 2020 (EDT)
:From what I see, the quoted descriptions seem to only focus on how the characters differentiate from past games. They are okay to stay, but ideally, there should also be original descriptions summarizing each character's properties and moveset overall. The Super Smash Bros. Brawl article can be used a reference. I wouldn't take the Mario & Sonic pages as model to be honest. 09:08, May 24, 2020 (EDT)
::But isn't that the whole point of SmashWiki though, to give detail on the fighter's movesets? PrPro03 (talk) 11:03, May 24, 2020 (EDT)
:::MarioWiki tends not to delve into strategy or metagame topics, hence it would be best to keep the descriptions to "official profiles" rather than in-depth descriptions of how the characters play, or their properties (the properties can go in their own pages). MarioComix (talk) 17:46, May 24, 2020 (EDT)
::::So it might be a bit late to weigh in on this, but I think having only official descriptions is the way to go. Having original write-ups for each fighter in a series with mechanics as complex as Smash is a slippery slope to strategy-based writing, overly long descriptions, or worse, personal opinions and bias, many of which I already see forming here; Mario's description refers to three of his moves as being "great", while Joker and Hero's descriptions have become very long as a result of the unique mechanics of both fighters. Leave the complexities to SmashWiki, I say. -- 22:22, May 30, 2020 (EDT)
:::::Agreed; even in trying to shorten and resize them, they take up too much of the table. 22:26, May 30, 2020 (EDT)
::::::Should we include a link to each character's SmashWiki page so people who want that analytical stuff can go right to it? PrPro03 (talk) 21:06, May 31, 2020 (EDT)
:::::::I don't think it's a bad idea, considering if you just wanted to go to Mario's Smash info it would be rather cumbersome to go through his entire page just to get to the Smash section, and then click on a further link. Either that, or we could link each character on the SSBU page to link to their Smash section on their own page. MarioComix (talk) 22:19, May 31, 2020 (EDT)

I'm just going to document what PrPro03 wrote in their edit summaries regarding the descriptions (before these get lost over time) - while the base characters' descriptions are from the SSBU website blog, the DLC fighters' descriptions come from the DLC page of the website, and Piranha Plant's comes from the eShop. Just a quick thing, I noticed that Super Launch Star was placed before Rage Blaster, Ramblin’ Evil Mushroom and Staff, even in alphabetical order it would be after those three. BackfireFirst
:I'm not sure if that's the in-game order, I haven't checked. 14:24, January 22, 2021 (EST)
