|A-rating=3.5
|A-comment=Nothing too bad in this article, just that the abbreviations need to be written out all the way, as they show a little laziness. Even if it is commonly referred to as SSBM, it doesn't mean it should be called that in random areas of the article.
|D-rating=2.5
|D-comment=Depth is mediocre, but for SSBM I sorta expected more. For example, this section tell the reader to look above for a better description. In an encyclopedia sense, that would not be acceptable as it could easily be explained again the aforementioned section. Even if sections like those exist, they should at least redirect to section their talking about. I understand we are an encyclopedia, not a FAQ, but important info like how to unlock various things are not present! Melee mode could be very thoroughly explained, like what Friendly Fire is, how many CPU/Handicap Levels there are etc.. Also explain a bit about selective random (an unlocked feature which lets the player turn off stages from appearing when using the random select). Types of Melee like Team and Free-for-All could be explained. I will not list all the problems right now, but after the other problems on this article are solved, I will explain more in-depth about other things.
|G-rating=3.0
|G-comment=Though the grammar is very understandable, you'll find quite a few spelling mistakes if you look at it hard enough. The article also skips too many lines, like after 2 sentences, the paragraph ends and another 2 sentence paragraph appears. On average paragraphs should be 4-6 sentences, no more, no less.
|I-rating=3.5
|I-comment=The only complaint I have with the images are that they are too small and don't really help illustrate the point. One a minor note, one of them has the Detstar tag on them which makes the image look a bit awkward.
|F-rating=3.5
|F-comment=Perhaps one more table for items could be added.
|FR-comment=Don't get me wrong, the article has some VERY good points as well, but it needs to be worked on a little more before it can be nominated.

::What you see there is (if I remember right) the result of the Japanese Nintendo site's edits.  We never were given a plain artwork for the secret characters. 03:08, 17 August 2007 (EDT)
Event Matches table
We apparently do have a MediaWiki bug in there, because the borders don't display properly. The same table looks fine when only using the Show Preview mode. Anyone have a solution? - 05:23, 9 August 2007 (EDT)
:Isn't this the same thing that happened on my User Page? Well, kinda the same thing?
There kinda the same.--Luigibros2 12:13, 25 November 2007 (EST)
New way to unlock Marth?
My friends and I were playing Super Smash when Marth suddenly came up (in VS, before Jiggs even) for no reason.
The memory was fairly new, but I think I know what happened: We got Marth by playing as all the defaults once. We played as Mario, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, DK, Link, Zelda/Shiek, Falcon, Fox, Pika, Ness, Kirby, the Ice Climbers, and Samus.
Someone wanna test this out?Dodoman
<blockquote>Beating the Classic Mode with all default characters, or playing 400 VS matches.</blockquote>
So you didn't unlock him in one of those ways? - 07:52, 28 September 2007 (EDT)
:Nopes. We had only played ten-ish matches, so I figured it was the mthod I stated above. -Dodo
::It won't help us much if we don't know what caused it. Also, it sounds like a bug. - 14:28, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
:::Once again, the method that I stated above. If someone tried it, we'd know for sure. -User:dodoman
::::Wow, that's pretty neat.  Probably a bug like Cobold said though, but I'll be sure to try that out. - Glitchman
Okay, so I tried it a few times on different discs AND different Cubes (and one Wii), and it's worked each time. So, I can say that it is most definitely not a glitch.
:Why? A glitch can occur regularly and be on all discs and systems. Minus World appeared on all copies of the original Super Mario Bros. - 11:26, 23 December 2007 (EST)
Pffff, this is old new. Aside from playing a set number of VS match, you can unlock him by playing with each of the 14 starters characters at least once in VS mode, I unlocked him that way.
Blitzwing
:If it's confirmed, you can add it to the section. - 13:18, 23 December 2007 (EST)
Event Articles
Umm, do you think the event matches should have their own articles? Koopster 64
:Maybe one big article for all of them if the article gets too big? 15:54, 3 February 2008 (EST)
::No, I don't think so. They are too minor. - 05:28, 4 February 2008 (EST)
:::I would agree with Stumper there. We have a List of Implied Characters about guys/creature that were only mentioned once throught the Mario series and then promplty forgotten. Since the events can sometimes feature things that are not anywhere else in the game (Dark Link for example), I think it would atleast make sense to have a list of 'em.
::::Ehm, we do have a list of Event Matches on this very page? We already decided against creating articles on game modes (like "Classic Mode" or "Adventure Mode") because this would steal content from the pages of the games, making them superflous in the end. - 07:25, 4 February 2008 (EST)
::::: Ah, 'K. Didn't see that list. --Blitzwing 07:30, 4 February 2008 (EST)
Stages icons
What happened to the series icons in the Stages section? --Trogga 15:45, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
:I can't remember the article having them. I also don't think we should use any icons from Brawl on the Melee page. - 15:53, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
::But how are we going to identify the stages' series? --Trogga 17:23, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
:::Is there a need for a sign? If people really don't know from what the stages are (I doubt that), they can check the stages' articles. - 17:38, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
::::The other lists have series identifiers. --Trogga 20:53, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
:::::Each description of the stage in the table lists the game the stage is from, so I see no need in repeating what is already there. - 07:19, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
::::We could actually save some space by doing that with the characters and items, no? 17:15, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
:::::Indeed we could. Would give the tables the same basic layout. - 17:21, 20 March 2008 (EDT)
Dropped Characters
I recently removed the trivia section by integrating it into the article, and that brought a bunch of source-less content to Cobold's attention.  He removed it, and I just wanted to let everyone know that I have no source for it either; I was assuming that someone else would.  In other words, there's nothing I can do to fix the problem, so if you believe teh information to be true, please take care of it yourself. 21:38, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
:I don't think they should be in the article between playable characters and playable stages, which actually appear in the game. The page Beta Elements exists for that kind of content, so unless we're going to split it up, we should add the (sourced) information there, not here. There could be a shorter statement about "dropped characters" in the Trivia section, with a link to Melee's section on the Beta Elements page. - 08:40, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
::Whatever works best.  Hmm... I do believe this is an opportunity to hunt down some information about the game's developement and make a section about that... but I wouldn't know where to look for that kind of information. 17:04, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
:::When you say you need information about the game's development, do you mean how the game was created, who created it, when stages and characters were announced to be playable, etc.??
::::Not that in-depth in terms of revealing game elements, but more like the production schedule of the game, yeah.  Like how it was created, etc.  There's a little about this on the Brawl "Iwata Asks" but that's all I know of.  Oh, and there's a version of the DOJO! that focused on Melee on the Japanese Nintendo website, but's in in Japanese. 17:23, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
:::::OK.  Well I don't know exactly where you could find that kind of info, but if you google "Super Smash Bros. Melee World", that's the website where they used to post updates on Melee, like Dojo.  Then you could also see Wikipedia.
::::Thanks! 19:05, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
The name "Brawl"
Brawl is just an english word. I don't think a random occurance on the box, which is not done by the game's creators but by marketing experts, means anything seven years afterwards. I'd remove that trivia. - 14:47, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
:Alright. Let me get it.
Character descriptions
I'm in the middle of making some sweeping edits to character descriptions. Character statistics (such as jumping height, weight, running speed) can generally be checked against this site. Ask me if you have any concerns, comments, and so forth. 15:31, 12 October 2008 (EDT)
Master Hand Glitch
Should we mention the "Master Hand Glitch" where you can play as Master Hand? Please no replys like "You can play as Master Hand?! How?!" I just want to know if we should include this and take out the Master Hand part of the debug menu in trivia. Lemmy Koopa Fan
:Glitch? I thought that happens if you hack the game. - 18:21, 26 August 2009 (EDT)
:I found it on SmashWiki, I tried the glitch, and it worked. I was Master Hand without hacking the game. Lemmy Koopa Fan
::Check Glitches. - 13:41, 30 August 2009 (EDT)
Sonic/Tails Hoax
Hey,<br/>
do you think that the 2002 April Fools joke that Sonic and Tails were unlockable characters (for SSBM) should be mentioned in the trivia of this article? User:McAusten! · talk to me · my edits 17:59, 13 December 2011 (EST)
:No, it's not really important.
Trivia
Ahem, guys, you are complete idiots. In my gameplay through Classic Mode, I never seen Marth at all, but I have seen Roy. I have changed the mistake, and you are welcome. Also, let me point out that Metal Link is the most common metal character in Classic Mode. SmasherLink (talk) 01:43, 23 July 2012 (EDT)SmasherLink
...So what was the point of this comment?
In Lieu of Original Descriptions
Since it's generally bad practice to rely on potentially opinionated written descriptions on the Mario Wiki, I was thinking that in lieu of those descriptions, we could use official descriptions of the playable characters from their [Smash] trophies, as those are the "official profiles" for each character that actually describe how they work in-game (as opposed to the non-Smash trophy, which gives a brief history lesson on each character). I was thinking we could just fit both [Smash] trophy descriptions into the playable character table, as two paragraphs. == Master Hand ==
Did you know you can play as Master Hand using specific combination on the character select screen. The original ToadyBro (talk) 20:43, May 5, 2023 (EDT)
