| My solution: I've seen a few pages write them with a colon (Badge Challenge: Parachute Cap I), but I don't think that's a good idea because there are actual stages with a colon in their name, such as The Midway Trial: Hop to It. Personally, I propose an em dash, rendering the name as The Final Test — Wonder Gauntlet. Stages like Badge Challenges and KO Arenas also have a line break, but use a different color for their supertitle. If the bottom proposal passes, the course supertitles would also have an em dash after them. | | My solution: I've seen a few pages write them with a colon (Badge Challenge: Parachute Cap I), but I don't think that's a good idea because there are actual stages with a colon in their name, such as The Midway Trial: Hop to It. | #Rodmjorgeh This is the Nintendo way, and considering this is a wiki that's trying to be as official as possible I think this is the best route. The dash is not present anywhere and while it does look nicer, it proposes the wrong name and creates incorrect assumptions just like the colon, just not as much of a problem. It's also like this in MSBT files - files that hold the text used in the game. Not only that, but when you place a Standee in a supertitled course (let's say, Badge Challenge Parachute Cap I) and someone uses it, it does say the whole thing, but without line breaks and without dashes: "The standee that was placed in the course Badge Challenge Parachute Cap I has been used.". | == (Operation Poplin Rescue) 'Final level' of Fungi Mines? ==
| |
|
| |
| I would've added this to the talk page for Operation Poplin Rescue if it existed. There isn't one for Fungi Mines either, so this is the most relevant place to put this topic.
| |
|
| |
|
| |
| I don't think Operation Poplin Rescue counts as an actual course. It's treated the same as the Poplin Houses in-game.
| |
| *It's listed where the Poplin Houses are on the course selection menu.
| |
| *The retry option and the ability to become a ghost online are disabled.
| |
| *There is no message that appears when 'clearing' the course in online multiplayer.
| |
| *No opportunity is given for the player to change their badge before starting the course.
| |
|
| |
| The only reason I could see it being counted as a main level is its Wonder Effect. If this could be counted as a proper course, why not 'Badge House in Pipe-Rock Plateau' or the short cutscene areas between the book chapters in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker? | I think popcorn-like enemies, or Morocon, are literally called "Hot-Hot", because...like that. :/ BlakeMobilesOnMarioWiki (talk) 15:29, December 13, 2023 (EST)

|
| |
| :"Hot-Hot" refers to the Hot-Hot Rocks (which are officially named in the "Break Time! Hot-Hot Rocks" level name). I doubt that's the name of the Morocon since the level's name in Japanese is 「灼熱のアチアチストリート」 (Shakunetsu Achi-achi Sutorīto, Scorching Hot-Hot Street), which references the Japanese name of Hot-Hot Rocks, 「アチアチ石」 (Achi-achi ishi), and "Morocon" is already a Japanese-derived name. 04:46, December 14, 2023 (EST)

| |
| :::You think that since they appear in a level with a repetitive name that must be their name specifically? Where's the title specifically referring to that enemy? This is some Hootenanny-level jumping to conclusions. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:50, December 16, 2023 (EST)
| |
| :::There's literally no correlation for the Morocon enemies to be named "Hot-Hot"; the "Hot-Hot" is clearly derived from the Hot-Hot Rocks, as shown with the Break Time level name, which does not feature the Morocon enemies at all, and the name "Morocon" (which comes from Japanese) doesn't include anything from the Japanese name of the Hot-Hot Rocks. Compare that to the internal filename for Revver and the Japanese name for Break Time! Revver Run, the latter including "チョロチュー" (Chorochū) in its name and matching with the former's internal name of "Chorochu". Furthermore, the Morocon enemy itself doesn't really show anything that could possibly match or relate to something being "Hot-Hot". Sure, it reacts to heat, but the enemy itself isn't hot, as it can be defeated with a single stomp just fine. 14:54, December 16, 2023 (EST)

| ==Japanese Enemy Names==
| |
| So, the official Japanese strategy guide has been released, and it seems like the official names are out there now. I can't verify most of these 100%, but they seem accurate so I figure I should post them here for the enemies that only use internal names. Some of these were already added to articles, but I'll post them again just for posterity's sake. A lot of them are the same as the internal filenames, but some are different.

| ==A note on the Game Informer source==
| |
| As the person who emailed Brian Shea, I should say I only asked about the names "Trompette" and "Swirlypod" and those are the only two he said were officialy given to him by Nintendo. I had to undo a bunch of edits citing that email response I recieved because any other name used is unconfirmed (such as the Wonder Effect variants and larger versions of enemies) and may very well just be conjectural. As noted with Wow Bud, some of the names used in said article are merely conjectural, so everything in it shouldn't be treated as an official Nintendo-sanctioned name apart from the two enemies I mentioned. BubbleRevolution (talk) 19:33, January 9, 2024 (EST)
| |
| :Fair enough, the scope of the response was misunderstood, but hold the phone - the Game Informer piece got "Downpour Cloud" before it was mentioned in this very article, and that's in the same boat as Marimba Block, where it has a localized internal string. In other words, it first appeared in Game Informer before it got sourced from the game. That alone makes it pretty clear there's more to this than Trompette and Swirlypod. If he's open to questions, why not reask for clarification on the rest of the names (or, better yet, if he'd be willing to share the list of Nintendo-approved names)? | |
| ::The impression I have from the article is that the Wow Bud is referred to as a "flower bud" 41 times in the article, and only once is that capitalized, so I think the author is indicating that that specific name is being applied here in an informal sense. That one capitalization is most definitely a mistake. I have a different impression from the subjects that are consistently capitalized and have discrete applications in the article. In lieu of any clarification from a more direct source, I think these names, such as Downpour Cloud or Topple Rock, should be treated as official. Names that are lowercase from this source should not be. - Nintendo101 (talk) 12:40, January 12, 2024 (EST)

| :::Jumping off this point, I'm not sure why the wiki is so committed to using game models as the main image in each individual enemy page. I feel like there is no other game where this is standard and it's common to simply use screenshots instead but everytime I put the screenshots as the images it gets changed sooner or later. Do you feel the same way for those pages, shouldn't the models be in the gallery and have the main image be a real game screenshot? I'm not sure where else to put this but this is topically related so there we go. — Qyzxf (talk) 15:29, February 2, 2024 (EST)
| |
| ::::Over time I have come to be pro screenshots, but I think they are sometimes integrated in ways that look messy, the subject is out of focus, or the visual fidelity is poor. For the 3D games like Galaxy and Sunshine, I had integrated screenshots that are squared and in focus. I think the uniformity looks appealing, but that might just be saying more about me than anything else. But while screenshots are fine, I think models offer nice neutral displays in the same way 2D sprites do for the older games, and there are definitely contexts where that is preferred over a screenshot. You can still make out the general visual details/shape of a model or sprite when they are scaled down, whereas the subject of a screenshot sometimes gets warped too much. Others might feel differently though. - Nintendo101 (talk) 18:58, February 2, 2024 (EST)
