| Has anyone else thought about Subcon's meaning? I thought that, if Mario's journey was a dream, then the world of Subcon might actually be short for Subconscious. Does anyone else think that too? 22:57, 24 March 2012 (EDT) | | Has anyone else thought about Subcon's meaning? | Should it be renamed? I'm not sure about why this has to take priority. -- 12:05, December 15, 2019 (EST)
| |
| :It should stay as-is because Subcon is the name used in the manual Results May Vary (talk) 12:07, December 15, 2019 (EST)
| |
| ::While the fairies are named in-game in the credits. -- 12:08, December 15, 2019 (EST)
| |
| :::Subcon is also an in-game name in the context of the world, such as when Mushroom Kingdom II is unlocked in Super Smash Bros. Melee. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:14, December 15, 2019 (EST)
| |
| ::::Might bring up a proposal later, in case of disagreement on that. -- 08:30, December 16, 2019 (EST)
| |
| :::::Btw, there should also be a disambiguation page. -- 08:48, December 18, 2019 (EST)
| |
| ::::::Template:About exists for a reason, no need to make a two-article disambiguation page. 10:20, December 18, 2019 (EST)

| I don't see why this should be renamed. "Subcon" is the more popular term for the world, going to "Sub-con" or anything else just to distinguish it from the Subcon species that is more obscure doesn't make sense. The about template is enough. 10:35, December 18, 2019 (EST)
| |
| :And i don't see WHY this should take priority over the other Subcon. We don't know which one is the main. -- 12:22, December 19, 2019 (EST)
| |
| ::I don't think it's too much of a stretch that the world the entire game takes place in is going to be searched for more than the fairies in the ending cutscene. -- 12:45, December 19, 2019 (EST)
| |
| :::Yes, i know, but the fairies are mainly what's to save. -- 12:47, December 19, 2019 (EST)
| |
| ::::Chances are, people are more familiar with the world than the species. I never even knew of the species until reading this wiki, because they aren't encountered in the game until the end and most don't have the physical manual anymore. Super Smash Bros. Melee even directly calls the Mushroom Kingdom II stage as set in Subcon ("Mushroom Kingdom II is open it's the dream world, Subcon!"), and there's no mention of the species in that game afaik. 13:02, December 19, 2019 (EST)
| |
| :::::Pretty sure they aren't in the manual, either. It's just like the "voice calling for help" the in-game prologue writing has. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:26, December 19, 2019 (EST)
| |
| ::::::ok why in the name of arceus would we rename something that appears as an in-game name in ssbm so that a species that appears exactly twice in the entire mario series and only has a manual name can take priority? about template exists.
| |
| ::::::i don’t follow. 13:47, December 19, 2019 (EST)
| |
| :::::::Actually the species name only appears in-game....in the same crawl that mixes up Birdo and Ostro's names among some other oddities (though these were admittedly fixed in SMA).
