I think not. They have almost no connection whatsoever. They spit rocks. That's it. And the whole "Squid" thing is also pretty ridiculous. Just because "Squig" is close to "squid" does not mean that they are related to Octorocks. And Octorocks are octopi. Not squid.

I really don't think we should consider these actual "pigs." Beyond being pinkish, they look nothing like pigs (unlike, say, [[Pigarithm]]), and the name is clearly just a way to play off "squiggle," with the variants taking on a theme naming. ::I checked all in-game bios, and none of the types are ever called "pigs," at least in English. The most specific it gets is "creatures." To me, they seem like abstract blobs like so much of the rest of the game's original designs. :::I wouldn't say they look "nothing" like pigs, yeah they obviously don't look like real pigs but they're still heavily stylized cartoon pigs. The English names obviously reference them being pigs (Piglet/Pig/Hog/Oinker) and the Spanish and French translations also picked up on the resemblance. ::::They really don't look like pigs, though (they look less like pigs than SMG Mecha Bowser looks like Bowser, IMO). That circle on the front is their mouth, as shown by various animations, leaving them noseless. Unlike, again, Pigarithm, which actually does resemble a stylized pig or three. At this point, the only similarities to pigs are being pinkish, mostly hairless, and having four visible legs, which in a game with all sorts of postmoderny designs isn't really saying much. To put this in perspective, [[Muth]] is clearly a mammoth, having a recognizeable trunk, woolly body, and thematic location. [[Jellien]] is clearly a jellyfish in shape and movements despite being a space creature. Squiglet doesn't really have any of this, similar to how [[Boing-Oing]], the [[Tileoid]] family, and [[Cursya]] don't look like anything [[MarioWiki:BJAODN/Enemies#Punchinello|this side of death itself]]. As for the other languages, my presumption there is that it's further localized using the English version as a base, and thus not separately "picking up" on anything (though I could be wrong on that count). Would this be a case of [[Spider (Yoshi's Story)|Spider]], where it's called X in English and Y in Japanese but looks like Z, a case of [[Rhino Ankiron]], where it's called X in English and Y in Japanese but looks like a mix of both, a case of [[Power Bee]], where it's called X in English but looks like Y and is called Y in Japanese, or is it a case of [[ComBat]], where it looks like X and is called X in English but is given a non-indicative name in Japanese?
