::::The Trading Cards call it Star Spin
Yeah, it's definitely called Star Spin. If you talk to all the NPCs during the course of the game, one of them definitely calls it the Star Spin. I forget who says it, but I think it's either a Toad or a Luma near the beginning. I definitely remember it in-game though. I may check myself at some point, but it won't be for a while - got other games to play at the moment. If someone does decide to check, please describe who it is that calls it the Star Spin, just so that we know. Thanks! Avengah 12:12, 15 April 2011 (EDT
Funny Spin in Honeybloom Galaxy
When you're in Honeybloom galaxy at the part right after a checkpoint (sorry i couldn't be more specific) where there are clouds and flowers and wooden platforms, stand in the water next to the first wooden platform and you'll do a funny spin, flashing all orange. Could someone maybe take a picture of it or something? My camera doesn't have that good quality.
error
there is a grammar error: Spinning is an attack where Mario Luigi, Yoshi, and Rosalina can perform in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World. (There should be a comma between Mario and Luigi) --Poponana2 (talk) 13:03, 5 January 2014 (EST)
:Thanks for notifying, but next time, if you see an error in a nonprotected article, don't hesitate to fix it! 13:07, 5 January 2014 (EST)
Decide whether Mario’s special boost in the 4x100m Relay events of Mario & Sonic is a reference to the Super Mario Galaxy spin
Settled TPP
no quorum
The Mario & Sonic games contain recurring instances of characters spinning to a certain end—some explicitly being the same move as Galaxy’s spin, and some only having coinciding features. The Dream Spacewalk event in the Wii version of London 2012 has players perform a “Spin Attack” to deflect enemy projectiles, with the move being visibly and audibly the same thing we see in Galaxy. The Dream Ski Jumping event in the Wii version of Olympic Winter Games contains a “special action” mechanic that characters perform in unique ways, with Mario in particular spinning around while enveloping himself in a blue sparkly trail; considering the event is a callback to Mario Galaxy in its entirety, I think it’s safe to take Mario’s special action to be a nod to his signature move in this game as well. So far, these two instances are pretty well established and fit well within the article’s scope.
However, there are instances with unclear relation in the 4x100m Relay event, appearing in multiple Mario & Sonic installments. In this event, players can perform special moves to gain a speed advantage on the track; some characters, namely Mario, Luigi, and Amy, perform it in arms-spread pirouettes that create coloured blurs around them, but while the colour of the latter two reflects the dominant colour of their appearance (green and pink respectively), Mario’s is blue, just like in the Mario Galaxy spin. Now, in the London 2012 version of the event, the correlation isn’t as pregnant, as the trail has faint sparkles and looks more like a typical cartoony blur, but Rio 2016 makes the sparkles more pronounced, and Tokyo 2020 retains that aesthetic addition to a degree. Do note that the original Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games version of the event does not feature a speed boost mechanic and by extention a spinning animation that could set any sort of precedent prior to Super Mario Galaxy.
Since I am unsure of the article’s assertion that these relatively generic motions are the de jure Galaxy spin, I decided to set up a proposal where we can settle it. I don’t personally have a preferred outcome; either way it goes is fine by me.

Both London 2012 and Rio 2016/Tokyo 2020 spins are references; OK to stay
Only Rio 2016/Tokyo 2020 spin is; remove London 2012 instance
Neither are references; remove any mention of 4x100m Relay spin
Comments
Couldn't we just explain this in the article and say that it may or may not be a reference? It seems hard to be sure either way. 10:18, August 24, 2021 (EDT)
Super Mario Run
So I opened Super Mario Run for the first time in a while, and I noticed one of the moves in the game, referred to as a "Spin Strike" ("Spin Attack" in Japanese), involves using a Midair Spin near an enemy to defeat it. I don't remember the move from when I first played, but that might just be bad memory? In any case, it would make sense to cover that in this page, right? :The Spin Strike appears to have more to do with stomps than Spins. It's a misleading name. Salmancer (talk) 16:53, November 11, 2024 (EST)
