Probably not. It seems to be a modified (or rather, Bowsified) Red Switch. Modified as it has a gold Bowser choker as the base, and that all important skull. 
It's not ''Bowser's'' skull, but it's ''a'' skull. That+the red colour=a big red button marked DO NOT PRESS. What will you do?-Press it. IGN calls it a skull switch once, then calls it a "switch".

This isn't the only case where boss fights can be ended by hitting a button behind the boss - it first happens in Super Mario Land (where it is unnamed, and the sprite is too small to show any sort of detail like a skull), and then later in the other NSMB games. Currently, the former does not have a page, and the latter are included on [[! Switch]] along with the sort seen in Super Mario World that "turn on" solid line blocks (please note, the latter is the only type that the article introduction mentions!), although since the latter technically isn't conjecturally-named, I'm leaving that version as an alternate option in the poll rather than the main one (remember that, per the recent proposal that passed, you can vote for two options in a three-option poll).

My main concern here is SML, and thinking it's best to get both the unnamed switches on one page rather than making up ''two'' page names unnecessarily, but I thought it was best to leave full-consolidate as at least an option.

The switch of Super Mario Land does not look at all like the one of New Super Mario Bros. and does not look like a switch, until, there are not a source which states that it is the probably the same, I believe it is more consistent (if it is really necessary) to create a a page for the switch of Super Mario Land and leave that of New Super Mario Bros. as it until a source is found.

For the record, Skull Switch isn't conjectural. From the New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo Power guide: "When [Bowser] appears, simply hop onto the platform, use a long jump to leap over him, and hit the bridge-retracting skull switch." (page 26) Later, "[...] so it may be easier to dodge for a while until Bowser does a high jump, then dash beneath him to the skull switch." (page 110) Later still, "They're easier to dodge if you're farther back, but you'll need to stay fairly close to your foe so you can dash to the skull switch when Bowser jumps." ::The ''SML'' switch also makes the boss itself self-destruct and open the sealed gate to the next kingdom behind it, which is fairly different from simply lowering Bowser's bridge or affecting the lava flow as the boss switches do in the ''NSMB'' games. Furthermore, here's a quote from that game's manual at the end of page 6: "''After Mario beats the boss of a world, he can enter the next world by stepping on the switch in front of the gate.''" So since it only has a generic description, I'd be more in favor of creating a separate "Switch (''Super Mario Land'')" article. I think I agree with moving the "''NSMBx''" ! Switch currently in the same article as the standard ''SMW'' version, though. Prima ''Wii'' guide calls it a ! Switch (page 171), so maybe split the info between something like "!
