Bit of an update regarding the information of this, it seems an actual grey/"silver" palette exists for coins in SMB3, but goes unused for them. [[TCRF:Super Mario Bros. 3#Oddities|Jelectros would have turned into them]] after hitting a switch, which is still far more similar to the grey/silver coins in ''Super Mario World'' than the hidden coins in ''Super Mario Bros. 3''. It's worth noting, however, that Jelectro is actually, in function, a hazardous block and not an enemy, so it's comparable to the bricks that become regular coins when a switch is pressed. One note about ''Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros.'' (41) is that despite the name of the ''Super Mario Bros. 3'' object translating to hidden coin, the description introduces it as 「青色のコイン。」 (Blue-colored coins.) So "silver" is not the intended color.
