Shouldn't this be moved to Switch Block if that's its name in the most recent games? Pseudo-dino 13:23, 28 June 2011 (EDT)
Split P Switch, Gray P Switch, and Switch Block (Mario & Wario)
Settled TPP
passed
They appear differently, have different function, and were named differently, as the Gray P Switch uses an identifier in Japanese.

Split P Switch and Switch Block (Mario & Wario)
Split all
#FanOfYoshiPer.
#Doc von Schmeltwick Indubitably. They're different things, having them together like this with the "effects" list is rather clunky.
#Scrooge200 Per all.

#rollerC Per all.
<s>#Toadette the Achiever The differences are apparent and drastic enough to split both. (The Switch Block from M&W especially functions more like Beep Blocks than like P Switches.)</s>
Leave them all merged
Comments
Yeah, normal P Switches are blue, have an orange rim in this game, and only turn coins into blocks, and used blocks into coins, and Gray P Switches, as their name implies they are gray. They have a pink rim, and turn enemies into coins. -- 13:30, 8 October 2018 (EDT)
:Wouldn't it be better if this was a multi-option proposal? You know, if someone only wants one or the other split? 13:44, 8 October 2018 (EDT)

::What do you mean by that? 13:48, 8 October 2018 (EDT)
:::I'd say that we need both a sprite of the Switch Block from Mario & Wario, and a Japanese name for it (if it does have one). -- 11:51, 9 October 2018 (EDT)
:::: <-These are M&W Switch Blocks. Given that's a JP-only game and other objects from it have confirmed names, it's likely a legitimate Japanese name. While there is a possibility they were intended to be the same object tweaked heavily for gameplay at a time when their design wasn't as set-in-stone, it's not a high enough possibility in my opinion without further evidence. They're probably intended as different things entirely, particularly given the different function. ::However, it is true that the Gray P Switch just a redirect for this page, and wasn't an actual article before. -- 03:40, 10 October 2018 (EDT)
:::Yeah, these Switch Blocks differ drastically from the normal P Switch. Let's see what Waluigi Time thinks about it. -- 12:21, 10 October 2018 (EDT)
:::I mean about the Gray P Switch since those from Mario & Wario ressemble creatures inside boxes because of their eyes. -- 12:36, 10 October 2018 (EDT)
:::Well, i realized that Fluffin' Puffin weren't maybe intended to be the same thing as Huffin-Puffins, i think they should all be split. -- 12:19, 11 October 2018 (EDT)
::If anything else, is this the only Wiki that has proposals between splitting, rennaming and mergeing? -- 07:41, 17 October 2018 (EDT)
Split Trample Switch?
Seeing as how Super Mario 3D World has these particular switches, which function differently in that they require two bodies to be on two respective switches for an effect to occur, should we necessarily split them out? 01:43, 8 March 2019 (EST)
:Interesting scenario... I'm not too sure how to proceed either. What's the Japanese name? -- 03:24, April 28, 2019 (EDT)
::Could you upload a scan of the Prima guide to be more specific on what is the Trample Switch? -- 01:48, April 29, 2019 (EDT)
:::I didn't see this earlier, but after discussion with Toadette, it seems that the Prima eGuide uses both P Switch and Trample Switch while the print copy only mentions P Switch - Trample Switch is, oddly enough, the internal name for the P Switches of Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Odyssey. == Split Orange P Switch from here ==
Settled TPP
passed
Just like Gray P Switch before it, except now it's referring to the P Switch variation debuting in 3D World that requires multiple characters/objects at once to activate. I thought about splitting this out already, but then decided on making a proposal about it in case there were any second thoughts.

I can see that the guide referenced its filename. -- 01:12, August 27, 2019 (EDT)
I agree with having a separate article, but I'm not sure about the name. There are a few instances where the name of the gray version is clearly "Gray P Switch" in Mario Mania, but in the Super Mario 3D World Prima guide, "Orange P Switch" comes up at the beginning of a sentence in the P Switch description. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:35, August 27, 2019 (EDT)
:Perhaps P Switch (orange)? -- 11:39, August 27, 2019 (EDT)
::Is there any other official source for them having a distinct name at all? If not, "P Switch (orange)" could work. 11:42, August 27, 2019 (EDT)
:::They're also called "P Panels" and "Switch Panels" (despite the latter name also given to Flipswitch Panels), and every other mention is generic/non-descriptive. 12:14, August 27, 2019 (EDT)
::::"P Panels" seems like the best if it is unique. LinkTheLefty (talk) 14:40, August 29, 2019 (EDT)
:::::And yet I'm not sure if it is, since it only has one obscure mention in a level section. 17:33, August 29, 2019 (EDT)
::::::Could you quote it? 17:34, August 29, 2019 (EDT)
:::::::First paragraph of Beep Block Skyway tab reads:
:::::::"The primary concern for this level is the alternating series of blue and pink Beep Blocks. They will tick several times before a beep indicates that one set of blocks will disappear and the other appear. On top of that, you have to use Double Cherries to create clones to reach all of the collectibles. For example, two P Panels early into the level cause Coins to appear."
:::::::Mind you, this is the only mention of the name "P Panel". "Orange P Switch", on the other hand, comes directly from the Items/Objects tab, so I believe it may be the better name to use. 17:41, August 29, 2019 (EDT)
:::::::::Looking at the level P Panel is definitely intended for the Orange P Switch. May you please quote the P Switch description too? 17:46, August 29, 2019 (EDT)
P Switch<br>
Step on a P Switch to uncover secret Coins, reveal hidden trails, or move platforms into place. Most P Switch effects are temporary, so make sure you move quickly! Orange P Switches tend to come in pairs or more, and must all be activated at the same time.
Trample Switch<br>
A larger variety of P Switch. Orange Trample Switches tend to come in pairs or more, and must all be activated at the same time.
I'm also including "Trample Switch" since Prima mistakenly stated that Orange P Switches come in two sizes, which they don't. Also, it should be noted that "Trample Switch" doesn't appear in the physical guide, only in the eGuide. 18:01, August 29, 2019 (EDT)
:I guess Orange Trample Switch is another name? I assume that Trample Switch is also a name for it, and due to being used in its own entry I feel like we should use that name. 20:23, August 29, 2019 (EDT)
::Like I just said, though, it doesn't appear in the physical guide. 08:46, August 30, 2019 (EDT)
::To Doomhiker, Trample Switch is really another name for P Switch, which Prima took from the filenames. To recap, <tt>TrampleSwitch</tt> is the normal, round P Switch (and was even reused in Super Mario Odyssey), <tt>TrampleSwitchChara</tt> is a Character Switch, <tt>TrampleSwitchGold</tt> is a golden P Switch, <tt>TrampleSwitchRotate</tt> is a blue square P Switch, and <tt>TrampleSwitchTogether</tt> is this one. I think the guide author just got a little confused and thought it referred to a different thing, since the images apparently don't line up. Anyway, I still feel like "Orange P Switch" wouldn't be the best title, not only due to "orange" probably just being a generic descriptor but because orange-colored P Switches have appeared (not so much with gray-colored P Switches if I recall correctly). "Panel" gives you the impression that it triggers a bit differently from the usual switches, which it does. LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:15, August 30, 2019 (EDT)
:::Ok then, P Panel should be used. 10:19, August 30, 2019 (EDT)
::::P Panel it is, then. For now at least. 11:52, August 30, 2019 (EDT)
:::::P Panel makes sense, given that they are panels. 11:57, August 30, 2019 (EDT)
