It's the modern name from these blocks, from Mario Golf: World Tour, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker. Conversely, the only time they are called "Jump Blocks" is in the manual for Super Mario World.

On the top of the page, there is a suggestion for this page to be split into Note Block and Music Block. I believe that we should follow through with this, because they are two seperate objects with different functions. One of the reasons for splitting being that there might be a list of all the Music Block sounds which would not necessarily belong on the original Note Block page.

(EDIT: "Music Block" is referring to the orange/pink Note Block in Super Mario Maker that is often used in music levels by the community.)

I know these objects have the same name in many instruction booklets / official guides. I also know that the internal name of the Note Blocks remained "Jump Block" in NSMBU. But, in addition to a different design, the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Jump Blocks do not emit musical notes and have no objects in them. For this reason I propose to separate them.

::It's the original name as seen here. As an aside, there is at least one World-e course with a title that references Note Blocks but, as the Super Mario Advance 4 manual and guide instead refer to them as Jump Blocks, it seems to be a descriptor rather than a name in this context and regardless it didn't officially catch on at the time. == Overturn the decision to split Jump Block (New Super Mario Bros. Wii) ==
Settled TPP
passed
The reasoning behind splitting these out in the previous proposal was flawed; the Jump Blocks in New Super Mario Bros. Wii were clearly a shoddy attempt to "modernize" the Note Blocks' function. The two main arguments used to justify this are utterly invalid; Note Blocks haven't always produced musical chimes in all of their appearances, and they also never hold items in Super Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros. 2. Lastly, the filenames found by LinkTheLefty above plainly imply that these were meant to be redesigned Note Blocks.
Let's not drag this out, shall we?

#Toadette the Achiever Per proposal.
#Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) Per what I said before
#Niiue Per proposal.
#Obsessive Mario Fan Yeah, per all. The only differences are the design and the sound it makes.
#TheDarkStar - These are clearly a shoddy translation of the Note Blocks, especially notable because they appear in Mario Party 9 as well. Unless some info miraculously shows up at the last possible second, supporting.
#Lord Grammaticus Per all.
#LinkTheLefty Per previous and current points.
#Power Flotzo Per everyone.

Is it ok to split it before the proposal passes, to merge it after, or that would be unecessary, since the other ones also have been chosen to be split. -- 07:30, September 10, 2019 (EDT)
:The original proposer is supposed to handle it, but given Alternis apparently hasn't signed in since around the proposal ended and there is currently a new one, I say let's worry about it afterwards. It could be unnecessary. LinkTheLefty (talk) 07:50, September 10, 2019 (EDT)
::Would have liked to see the result of the page, but i agree that it is unnecessary. Would the original proposal in the archives marked as yellow, as only one decision is being overtuned instead of two? -- 08:04, September 10, 2019 (EDT)
:::I think it would be marked as green, but only mention the part that's still in effect (example, "Split Jump Block (Mario & Wario) from Note Block"). LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:17, September 10, 2019 (EDT)
::::Pretty sure it'd still be marked in yellow, since that's the case for previous proposals. 08:54, September 10, 2019 (EDT)
:::::Nah, i think it's what LinkTheLefty mentioned. -- 06:43, September 12, 2019 (EDT)

If these are called "Note Blocks" in Mario Superstar Baseball ("Hit a Note Block with a Ball!" for Toadette), then we should be calling them Note Blocks and not Jump Blocks for that game. Also, on a side note, it reminds me of how Princess Peach was called that in Yoshi's Safari only to go back to Princess Toadstool for Super Mario RPG (SNES) and then to Princess Peach in 64. : Changed the references to Note Blocks as that's what they're called in-game. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:01, February 21, 2024 (EST)
