| == Is the 3DS a predecessor ==
| |
|
| |
| People have been repeatedly adding into this article and the 3DS article that the 3DS is apparently the Switch's predecessor alongside the Wii U, so I think it's time to actually discuss this. Are there any official sources that call the 3DS a predecessor for the Switch, or ones that don't? When I google it, all I see are forum pages which call it so.

| :Officially, the Nintendo Switch is mainly presented as a new type of device that can be considered the successor of the Wii U, with docked mode making it some kind of a home console; practically, the Lite revealed what we already knew: it’s a handheld console first and foremost, aiming at being a portable Wii U, as the game library shows. So in practical terms it’s a successor to both, officially it’s more of a successor of the Wii U, with it being initially marketed as a home console you can take around with you.—Mister Wu (talk) 10:13, October 2, 2020 (EDT)

| == Change from home to hybrid ==

| I saw that Wikipedia and Bulbapedia have it classified as a hybrid console not a home console. I changed it just in case Wikipedia and Bulbapedia are right, but somebody reverted my edits. I wonder if it is an error? I'm going to make a proposal for the change just in case Wikipedia and Bulbapedia are right (which are most cases is).

| |
| #Hewer The way the article is right now already says that the Switch is a hybrid console but is marketed primarily as a home console, which I think is a perfect compromise. Also, as some general advice, "other wikis do it this way" is almost never a good argument because those wikis are completely separate from this one and have different rules.

| Where in the article is it said definitively that the Switch is a home console? 10:40, July 22, 2022 (EDT)
| |
| :It's in the top section and the features section.

| |
| :I'd like to see the reasoning for the definitions made in Wikipedia and Bulbapedia; that they are simply present in those two wikis shouldn't necessarily mean we adopt them. 17:30, July 22, 2022 (EDT)

| ::@Teh Other There is a source in the opening paragraph which calls it a home console, which Nintendo seems to primarily market it as. 19:06, July 22, 2022 (EDT)

| passed
| |
| I think the Nintendo Switch Online section may be way too long. In this case, perhaps there's a possibility to split this page's "Nintendo Switch Online" section to the following: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Online.

| #GuntherBB Per proposal
| |
| #Waluigi Time We already have Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and Nintendo Network split, and the NSO section is more substantial than the latter page. I don't see why not.

| #Hewer Actually, per Waluigi Time, I didn't realise the previous online services were split and doing this makes sense for consistency.

| I just have a broader question mark about the necessity of covering this service in detail. 20:53, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
| |
| :I find myself having to link to it enough that I think it's worth it. It definitely qualifies as relevant to Mario, being necessary for online play in Mario games for the Switch, plus the Booster Course Pass is part of the Expansion Pack, and there's the various Mario games featured in its retro game libraries (which admittedly do have their own pages but it's good to have something to link to every time we say such and such is exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online and/or the Expansion Pack). Compare Nintendo eShop and the Virtual Console, for example. 16:41, July 30, 2023 (EDT)
