Mario Kart 9 preview or Mario Kart 8 DLC 3 ?
I look the trailer for the Switch, he have Mario Kart 8 with King Boo... King Boo in Mario Kart 8 ? What ? It'sa DLC 3 ? Or Mario Kart 9 ? (And Wii U and 3DS's games no compatible with Switch's games) --Captain Yoshi 12:45, 27 November 2016 (EST)
:What we saw in that part of the trailer was extremely short. There probably will not be more Mario Kart 8 DLC, since we had DLC in half-year intervals when we did, and we would have missed several cycles by now. Nintendo probably be making a new Mario Kart for the Switch, like they have for all the other consoles, instead of a port. The current balance of evidence seems to indicate that a tech demo is the most likely case. Either way, it is best that we wait for absolute information before placing information into the article. 13:17, 27 November 2016 (EST)
::Rumors point to it being a port of Mario Kart 8 with added content (you can think at it being patched to have double items and possibly an improved Battle Mode and having additional content like in a DLC pack), but these are not an official and reliable source, so they cannot be in this article. We'll have to wait for the official presentation.--Mister Wu (talk) 13:21, 27 November 2016 (EST)

Backwards Compatibility
Are there any details if this console will have backwards compatibility with Wii U games? Excluding handhelds and starting with the Wii, Nintendo has made an effort to make older games compatible with a newer system at launch.

::What about games in a non-optical format (Mario Kart 8) officially released on the eShop? -- 16:01, 16 January 2017 (EST)
:::That, I'm unsure about. I think evidence of the lack of backwards compatibility can be seen with Breath of The Wild and Mario Kart 8, both of which are getting re-released on the Switch despite being on the Wii U. This is technically still speculatory since Nintendo hasn't said anything as far as I'm aware, but to me that essentially says that the Switch won't be backwards compatible. --Thatguy62 (talk) 16:09, 16 January 2017 (EST)
::::Sorry for coming late, since the Switch is based on a Tegra SOC (ARM CPU or Denver CPU, Geforce-based GPU) it cannot execute the games made for Wii U (PowerPC CPU, Radeon-based GPU), meaning that a port of them must be done.--Mister Wu (talk) 22:53, 18 January 2017 (EST)
Switch at Pax South
I will be attending Pax South this Sunday to demo the Switch. What kind of information do we still need about the Switch and it's games which I can find out while I'm there?-- 17:05, 25 January 2017 (EST)
:There are only two Mario games announced for the Switch so far, and only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be playable, if I am not mistaken. I fear that they are reusing the demo version of the first events, which has limited options and no Miis, still I'd suggest to look both at the page of the game and at the page of Mario Kart 8 so you can already guess what could be interesting to add to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe page without adding redundant information (which is already in the page of Mario Kart 8). Maybe the menus and the new elements in them aren't yet fully covered. Also, in the multiplayer mode of the demo version the stats button was missing, if in the single player mode it is possible to view the stats, this would be a good start to start adding information about the new characters and vehicle parts. I don't know if the event will be streamed as well and if more information about Super Mario Odyssey will be revealed, in case you could take a few notes. Also, if you can have a look at the Home menu of the console (which I doubt it) or discover some information on the console not yet written here, you could take some notes about it too. By the look of it, however, these are preliminary versions of the OS, so I don't know how much can be inferred from the about the actual OS installed on the console.--Mister Wu (talk) 17:27, 25 January 2017 (EST)
::I didn'y get any new info unfortunately, but I did get a bunch of photos of the switch setup area where they show off the different ways to play, which I've noticed in other videos of other switch demoing places. Will upload tomorrow.-- 23:56, 29 January 2017 (EST)
Early footage of the Nintendo Switch's OS and more finally leaked!
Guys, apparently a guy on NeoGAF who goes by "hiphoptherobot" apparently got his Nintendo Switch two weeks early yesterday on Wednesday, February 15, 2017!! And has posted a 2 minute and 56 second video of him showing off the Nintendo Switch's OS vid.me (which currently has 1,000,000+ views), and you may have to download the mp4 file in order to see. As well as unboxing it on Floko (which currently has 865+ shares). You can also view the video on YouTube on Dystify's channel (links below), which he claims he will take down soon and be posted on FloKO (Paul Gandersman)'s channel. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo forces him to take down his video, files a lawsuit, or something. But if hiphoptherobot really trolled us all, he made it extremely convincing for sure.
But I sure hope some of this information comes in handy and can be used on the article.
Things I've found, highlights:
1) 0:49 You can choose from 12 profile icons, which includes; Yoshi, Bowser, Link's Sword, Zelda, a blue Pikmin, Samus Aran, Blathers, Celeste, Lime Green Inkling, Orange Inkling Squid, Fox McCloud's spaceship, and a Mii.
2) 0:55 You can have an owner and a nickname for one's account.
3) 1:05 I know this likely isn't new, but 8 users can be registered on a single Switch system.
4) 1:16 The News applet, where I see something in the upper left corner on Mario holding what looks like a trophy and lots more.
5) 1:29 A system update is required before preceding to the Nintendo eShop.
6) 1:31 Album applet.
7) 1:39 Controllers settings.
8) 1:48 System Settings, where it shows it has a 25.9 GB internal memory and much more.
9) 2:39 Sleep Mode.

Explain me this:
Why do all the video game consoles' articles have their games' gallery sorted in alphabetical order yet Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and Nintendo Switch inexplicably have their games' gallery sorted by release date? This is a bit incongruent, we should use one consistent order for all consoles.

This discussion at WikiProject Video Games is the consensus that Switch should be included as an 8th gen console. This discussion on the 8th gen talk page triggered the wider WP:VG discussion which includes sources from reliable industry sources grouping Switch in the same generation as PS4 and Xbox One. The consensus can change if the video game industry begins to place Switch clearly as a 9th gen console. --Alucard 16 (talk) 10:19, 12 January 2019 (EST)

Is the 3DS a predecessor
People have been repeatedly adding into this article and the 3DS article that the 3DS is apparently the Switch's predecessor alongside the Wii U, so I think it's time to actually discuss this. Are there any official sources that call the 3DS a predecessor for the Switch, or ones that don't? When I google it, all I see are forum pages which call it so.
:Officially, the Nintendo Switch is mainly presented as a new type of device that can be considered the successor of the Wii U, with docked mode making it some kind of a home console; practically, the Lite revealed what we already knew: it’s a handheld console first and foremost, aiming at being a portable Wii U, as the game library shows. So in practical terms it’s a successor to both, officially it’s more of a successor of the Wii U, with it being initially marketed as a home console you can take around with you.—Mister Wu (talk) 10:13, October 2, 2020 (EDT)

:I find myself having to link to it enough that I think it's worth it. It definitely qualifies as relevant to Mario, being necessary for online play in Mario games for the Switch, plus the Booster Course Pass is part of the Expansion Pack, and there's the various Mario games featured in its retro game libraries (which admittedly do have their own pages but it's good to have something to link to every time we say such and such is exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online and/or the Expansion Pack). Compare Nintendo eShop and the Virtual Console, for example. 16:41, July 30, 2023 (EDT)
