| == Challenge Mode Cutscene Table == |
| |
| I've notice that the main page for Mario Super Sluggers is semi-protected, and I was hoping to see about starting a list regarding the Challenge Mode cutscenes that wait us during this mode of the game (got this idea after viewing the videos shown at Wii Folder. Of course, we'd have to put the spoiler tags prior to this, but here's how the layout would work: |
| |
| {| style="font-family: Verdana; border="1" cellpadding="1" |
| |+ style="font-family: Verdana; " | <FONT size=4>Challenge Mode Cutscene List</FONT> |
| |- style="background: #5f9ea0;" |
| ! Scene Title !! Description !! Who Is Invovled !! Cutscene is Triggered |
| |- |
| | <center>Junior Arrives</center> || <center>Bowser Jr. invades Baseball Island by raising his Block Fort out from the water, crashes it headfirst onto the island.</center> || <center>Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Bowser Jr.</center> || <center>When Challenge Mode begins entirely</center> |
| |- |
| | <center>Defeating Bowser</center> || <center>Mario and company celebrate a hard-earned victory after prevailing over Bowser's team.</center> || <center>Majority of the team captains (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Birdo, DK) and some team supporters.</center> || <center>When the player manages to win against Bowser's team at his castle</center> |
| |} |
| |
| The "Homerun Celebration" video is also posted there, but I honestly don't know where that cutscene is triggered in the game. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Enthusiast! 21:33, 23 June 2008 (EDT) |
| |
| Additional note, this table should obviously <b>not</b> list the full details from start to finish on the cutscenes in question; this is just to provide a brief description on what to look out for when viewing each one. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Enthusiast! 22:14, 23 June 2008 (EDT |
| |
| did you notice how someone wrote the intro? wouldn't it be wise to just write it out like a story of sorts? like put the intro description, then write about the canon parts of what happens through challenge mode, and then write descriptions of the cutscenes when they occur respectively? a list like that doesn't seem write when there's more to it than that. i can't edit the article cause it's protected so... yeah.MarioKun |
| |
| My thing is that this table would be better for the game's main page here on the Wiki because there would be some folks who still don't want to be spoiled in terms of the "story" itself. Oh, and to the person who replied to my posts, you forgot to place your signature beside your replies. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Enthusiast! 22:27, 23 June 2008 (EDT) |
| |
| :Anyway, that's why we have spoiler tags. We (excuse the improper grammar) not put information just because it's considered spoiler material. the way the intro was written would make since to be applied to the other events that follow through challenge mode. this table is basically useless when we have other ways of keeping useful info. MarioKun |
| |
| ::Wait, wait, wait -- let me get this straight -- so what you're telling me is this -- I still would recommend putting in this table for the cutscenes that await us for the Challenge Mode. HOWEVER, if I understand you correctly, you're telling me that it's still necessary to write in the <u>whole</u> Challenge Mode procedure which <i>also</i> includes where certain cutscenes are triggered -- JUST like how the intro was described on the Wiki's main page (since you say that the intro CONNECTS with the Challenge Mode to come). Hopefully I'm on target here. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Enthusiast! 11:02, 24 June 2008 (EDT) |
| :No. I'm not saying we should use that the table is unnecessary because we can just write out what happens in challenge mode, including descriptions of what happens in the cutscenes, in the same manner that the intro was written. I never said we should have both that table and the explanatory paragraphs, I said the table is unnecessary because all we have to do is use spoiler tags. Also, I never said that the intro is a part of challenge mode.MarioKun |

|

| All right; side question to those who have the Japan version of this game -- can anyone tell me (and others) how many <b>total</b> cutscenes await us in the Challenge Mode of this game? And we need confirmation of we're able to view them again <i>outside</i> of the mode itself (obviously by using the standard drill of "view this movie in the Challenge Mode to unlock it under a certain menu" in another section of the game). All right; thanks. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Enthusiast! 21:23, 25 June 2008 (EDT) |

==Red Toad = Toad==
|
Well I thought I'd just bring this up as I believe that the red toad is infact Toad. Like how yoshi is sometimes called green yoshi in other spin off titles, he is just named red toad to differentiate from the other toads. It also strongly resembles him as he has a good relationship with Toadette, his bio from superstar baseball notes him strongly like Toad, his importance in the intro and overall scenes(why would they make a random toad so important in the cutscenes unless he was an important toad?), and also his chemistry from superstar baseball has him with good terms with peach, toadette and bad with Wario possibly noting Wario's woods. he's also important in the opening of superstar baseball as well. The reason why he has a red jacket was so he symbolizes the red colour more instead of showing blue as Blue Toad is already there. User:Pichufan93

:Assistant captain? What kind of term is that in that article? The term for that is simply "captain". I'm pretty sure this term is referring to story mode, where you can't face the "assistant" captain without facing the "leader" captain. It's basically saying that they are not the leader of the team for Story Mode, unlike the Exhibition mode where they can be the leader.

==Characters section==
|
I have a question. May we take screenshots of the characters in the character selection screen for the table instead of resorting to gameart? I have a Dolphin emulator right now and I am able to take high quality screenshots. I was just thinking about this earlier because we can provide images for the colored team players as well. If you haven't noticed, I've upload high quality screenshots for Mario Superstar Baseball for the tables and it looks splendid. If you disagree, then that's ok. I was just thinking of a way to add some images to the colored team players tables. And if you do agree to this, unfortunately, I lack a completed save for the file so I may not have the unlockable characters yet.
|
| |
: If it's possible, yeah; but the roadblocks are these -- if you're referring to the Team Players portion -- the Main Team Players chart is fine. However, if you're targeting the Alternate Team Players portion, where in the game would you take screenshots of the characters? Challenge Mode roster itself, or when you get word about those alternate Team Players joining the team? --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Fan! | |
::Well, in the character select screen for minigames such as Toy Field or say Bob-omb Derby, a character does an animation when you choose him. It's pretty similar to that of Superstar Baseball except you have to choose him in order for him to appear. M&SG already took a screenshot of what it would look like, except the version I will take is not full-screen and it will be cropped smaller.

== Reasons Unreleased in Europe and Australia? ==
|
| |
For what main reason was this game not released in Europe and Australia? We know that Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars originally was not released in those two countries since that game was under construction with Super Mario 64 and the Nintendo 64 console simultaneously but then made its way to those two countries for the first time officially on Virtual Console. Perhaps the main reason Mario Super Sluggers did not make its way to Europe and Australia would be primarily that it was under construction at the same time as Mario Kart Wii. --PrincessDaisyFanatic3883 18:20, 28 February 2012 (EST)

== Proposal: In character articles, in their appearances by date chart, stop pointing out unlockable (challenge mode) in the description column. ==
|
Settled TPP
|
failed
|
Okay, so I believe that this section in the tables is not noteworthy. Seeing as out of 41 characters in the game, only two character are starting characters in the mode (Mario and Luigi), that description is not noteworthy. 39 out of 41 characters are unlockable in that mode so that sure is a huge proportion. My suggestion is to stop listing that detail due to it not being noteworthy. Non-noteworthy things that are not noteworthy in this same way in the trivia sections of articles get removed so why do we have this?

First, where is it noted? (seems I'm not good at finding stuff) Also, this is a wiki. If you feel it's better this way, why not just changing it? I don't think there is major disagreement, so this should be closed by Rule 15.

:The information in question is listed in the individual character pages. I assume since the complain is specifically about information on the lists regarding Mario Super Sluggers, the TTP was put here. As this involves a large handful of character articles and not specifically this one, I'd have made this a normal proposal. That said, I'd still like to see a few specific examples, as most of them seem to say "playable character" and little else on the appearance by date chart (for those characters that have a chart). -- Ghost Jam 18:05, 16 November 2014 (EST)
|
::So what happened was me not checking myself enough. I have compiled a list of several different characters listing on what it says in that category. The list:
|
So these pages seem to have that extra detail on them:
|
| |
Peach#List_of_appearances_by_date
|
| |
Daisy#List_of_appearances_by_date
|
| |
Birdo#List_of_appearances_by_date
|
| |
But these pages don't:
|
| |
Wario#List_of_appearances_by_date
|
| |
Waluigi#Game_appearances
|
| |
Diddy_Kong#Game_Appearances
|
| |
Dixie_Kong#List_of_Game_Appearances
|
| |
Bowser_Jr.#List_of_appearances_by_date
|
| |
Toadette#List_of_appearances_by_date
|
| |
Baby_Mario#Game_appearances
|
| |
Baby_Luigi#Game_appearances
|
| |
The unfortunate part of this is that I notice that potential unwanted piece of information on the Daisy article and then double checked myself to see if it was common throughout the entire wiki on the Peach article and both pages ended up being in the minority group among whether or not this detail was present making me thing it was on far more articles than it actually was. On the articles I checked just now, the presence of the detail was 3 yes-8 no. Also as a mark for more potential things that need improvement, the Bowser page has an incomplete table while many others not on this list were excluded because there was no table like that on that specific article.

:::That's a good reason, but is this proposal really necessary? This is a wiki: a place where anyone can edit information. Unless it's about something nobody cares about, there are always people that can fix the information. That doesn't mean you can call Peach a swear word or say how bad Bowser's plans are on the wiki, but it means that you can fix an encyclopedia without filling the books with pen marks and sticky notes. Don't worry if you fix the tables without a proposal; there's always somebody who can fix it right up. Proposals are mostly for merging pages, creating pages, editing the Mario Wiki guidelines, and other debatable stuff like that. Madz the Penguin (talk) 21:23, 17 November 2014 (EST)
|
::::Generally speaking, any topic that would effect a handful of pages, involve longstanding traditions, spark new discussions on touchy topics or otherwise bring about a more than slightly editorial change are all candidates for proposals. There is a lot of wiggle room built into the process so we can shut down proposals on banned topics or to just give an automatic administrative green light, but by and large we prefer that a topic be brought to at least an administrator if it has potentially long reaching consequences.
|
| |
::::Further, some of your assertions are off, but they aren't unreasonable assumptions. Mergers normally only need proposals if they are going to cause problems, creating articles do not need proposals (and are normally closed via Rule 15, but exceptions do exist) and Wiki policy/guideline proposals are normally closed on sight and move to administrative discussion.
|
| |
::::For the proposal specifically, it started out looking like a standard "stuff needs to be gone" editorial issue. Removals that aren't part of the normal curating process are routinely brought to the community before steps are taken for several reasons. As it turns out, it looks like it was data that was either intended to be added to the lot or was for some reason removed from the lot, with a couple stragglers that missed the purge. It's also opened us up to the greater issue that many of our character page charts need to be improved. -- Ghost Jam 06:07, 22 November 2014 (EST)

| |
My opinion: It's better if we clarify who's default in every mode except Challenge. Think Challenge Mode like the Subspace Emissary, both can unlock all characters and not every otherwise-default character is available. Otherwise, listing these characters as "unlockable" is confusing, and we don't want that. But either way, this doesn't really call for any major changes, especially considering that few pages have the silly detail anyway. 23:17, 17 November 2014 (EST)
|
| |
:So what do you think we should do with this proposal? Most of us agreed that it was unnecessary, so should we end it before the deadline? Madz the Penguin (talk) 00:34, 20 November 2014 (EST)
|
::Maybe support it or something. 00:47, 20 November 2014 (EST)

:As the proposal seems like it is going to fail, I'm thinking I might just add more detail to the tags to make them more clear instead when it passes it's deadline. 07:16, 27 November 2014 (EST)

Where inside or outside of the game do I find the answer for the "point difference in a mercy game in baseball"? By "inside/outside of the game", I mean like EG, "how many gondolas are on the Ferris wheel?" I can solve that by going to the ferris wheel in Yoshi Park and looking at it. The answer is six. But for "how many tentacles does Blooper have?", the answer is ten. Because in general, despite seeing eight tentacles on Blooper, it's referring to squids in general biology. Squids have 10 tentacles in real life so the answer is ten. So where inside or outside of the game can I find the answer for the number of points scored when the mercy rule is activated/in use? Also, this question won't let me pass: "if you have a koopa, paratroopa, paragoomba, and boo, how many wings do you have?". I keep punching in 8 as 4 characters X 2 wings = 8 wings total.
