Is this name official? MIPS sounds really strange for rabbit's name...

:Platitudinous "MIPS got his name from the MIPS (Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages) microprocessor. Nintendo 64's CPU was a MIPS type, and thus the technology gave its name to the character." Does that make it clear?
::The name is also mentioned in the cited (official) interview. --Grandy02 16:26, 27 January 2010 (EST)

He says he got the Star from Bowser could that mean he's a member of the Koopa Troop?

Suggestion to lock page for a few days
Went to check out the page after Silvery's video (https://youtu.be/LiZMfsdYRHk?si=N7U95ibpxXe4uLsz) and noticed the constant edits going back and forth removing the Mario Party 3 section even after users edited it to be more accurate in saying that the rabbits resemble MIPS rather than actually being him like on Hoot's page. I suggest locking the page from edits for a few days to prevent any further edits. 35.142.162.131 20:48, January 20, 2025 (EST)
:Activity seems to have quieted down for now, but if it starts up again I will protect the page. - Nintendo101 (talk) 20:53, January 20, 2025 (EST)

OK, I don't know what stupid thing went down on YouTube, nor do I care. I do, however, think that it is not incorrect to refer to them as multiple versions of MIPS considering that is what the base model is - plus, internally, the numerous rabbits in 64DS are also considered MIPS (plural). Character/species variance is hardly a novel concept in this franchise, and acting like it can't happen in this case because [no reason given] is just silly - especially when this very game turned a bunch of species into specific characters for the duel partner mechanic. This goes doubly so for Hoot, who is only a nameless generic owl in the original Japanese. :We as Mario nerds understand the difference between "individual" and "species" is not fixed. However, I think saying "Several rabbits resembling MIPS can be seen gathering near the Item Shop" is an accurate and adequately neutral way of presenting the information that does not preclude either interpretation. Are we saying these rabbits are not MIPS? No. Are we saying they definitely are MIPS? Also no. Did the developers of Mario Party 3 call these rabbits MIPS? No. Do they look like MIPS? Absolutely, or at least to you and me (and surely many other users). The Mario Party games on the N64 were aesthetically informed by Super Mario 64, so it also makes sense. But still, we don't know explicitly, and unlike Boom Boom or Yoshi, MIPS is a much more obscure character with a more generic design. (Not saying the rabbit looks realistic, but Yoshi is Yoshi.) These could easily be generic rabbits that just also look like MIPS, and I don't think it is a good use of our time and energy to scrutinize it further. - Nintendo101 (talk) 00:35, January 22, 2025 (EST)
