As I said above, currently this page treats power-ups as accumulative - as if they appear in every game past their debut, as opposed to every game having a different lineup - and ignores that the design of a power-up in their original game often differs from the design that becomes the default later on. Rather than listing Super Mushrooms and suchlike umpteen times, how about we just go with alphabetising (the "Images" column would not show every sprite, just the major design changes. Maximum of five, but I don't think any power-ups actually have that many major changes). Columns to look something like this:

I don't know, I'm just addressing this because I'm looking through all the powerups for something I'm making and things like the Pirhana Plant and Pickaxe are really distracting and makes the list unnecesarrily long and tedious to read and it just makes everything disorganised...

On a side note, it would be great if there could be some kind of sorting that acknowledged some power-ups are very related to other power-ups to the point of being almost the same (like the statue leaf and tanooki suit) but this is just a suggestion and I understand if it wouldn't work. Thanks!!

:While I agree that some aren't exactly "powers", the thing is that (most of) the games regard them as such. It's strange to list a Pick-Axe as a power-up, yes, but that's the way it is. 15:30, 25 August 2016 (EDT)

::I do agree to an extent with the extra-life items or the + Clock, which don't even affect the player, only other statistics around the player.  16:28, 25 August 2016 (EDT)

The moon in SMM2 functions exactly like the Lucky Star. So should the smm2 moon be added?Pikachu210 (talk) 13:01, July 8, 2020 (EDT)

:It's just an item that you can pick up and hold and has an effect when thrown/hit, I wouldn't consider it a power-up any more than a Koopa shell personally. -- 14:39, August 28, 2020 (EDT)

:::Ok, I've thought about it and I realized that are a lot of these "items", ex:POW Block,P-Switch,Spring,exc.(this includes the koopa shell, it has quite a bit of uses in the 3D Mario games.)All of these items have there uses, even if they don't react with Mario. Even if there not power-ups,so should they be given their own section in this article? Or should they have their own article? Respond if you have an opinion on this topic. -- 11:03 September 2, 2020

Ports/remakes
Should the 1-up Mushroom and Super Mushroom sections be checked to remove ports/remakes? 10:46, December 12, 2020 (EST)
:Yeah, we should keep it consistent with the rest of the article. Personally, I think including ports or remakes in these sections will just clutter them.
:Also the Fire Flower and Super Star sections should be checked too. 11:00, December 12, 2020 (EST)
::What ports and remakes should be specified? Super Mario 64 DS, a remake, introduces the caps, Super Mushroom, Power Flower, and Wing Feather. 15:20, December 12, 2020 (EST)
:::We could make that exception if those power-ups are introduced or only included in the remake.
:I removed some already. 10:08, December 13, 2020 (EST)

Trimming this page
This page has way too much stuff on it. To simplify, I suggest limiting this only to items that provide a form change or some similar effect. Here's what I'm thinking should be cut:
*Items that give extra lives (1 UP Heart, 1-Up Mushroom, 2-Up Mushroom, 3UP Heart, 3-Up Moon, 3-Up Mushroom, 5-Up Mushroom)
*Items that increase time limits (+ Clock)
*Bros. Items (Copy Flower, Mix Flower)
*Items that only award coins or points (Golden Mushroom, Hachisuke)
*Items that increase or restore health (Heart, Life Mushroom, Life-Up Heart)
*Items that affect the environment but do not directly affect the player (Lucky Star, Slow Flower, Speed Flower, Stop Watch)
*Items that have to be picked up and held (Piranha Plant)

:I disagree Pikachu210 (talk) 18:01, July 5, 2021 (EDT)

:I agree with this. It's even in the name and the first sentence of the article: it should only be the items that actually power you up. 23:26, July 5, 2021 (EDT)

:I agree with this too. It just looks really cluttered and inconsistent. This article should only to be about what changes and powers Mario and co. up. --KingGeoshiKoopshi64 (talk) 04:17, July 6, 2021 (EDT)

:This is something I was thinking about for a while. 06:02, July 6, 2021 (EDT)

:Agreed. It should only be about power-ups and items that give Mario and co. themselves new abilities. 11:54, July 6, 2021 (EDT)
::the goomba's shoe isn't a power-up by your logic since the goomba's shoe, not mario, has the abilities. Pikachu210 (talk) 03:47, July 28, 2021 (EDT)

the term "power-up"
The term "power-up" is pretty vague. No one can agree what does and doesn't count as a power-up. The shoes don't give Mario new abilities. Rather, the shoe itself has the ability. It's more like a vehicle than a power-up. Pikachu210 (talk)
:They’re power-ups because they give Mario an ability he can’t do normally. Simple as that.Somethingone (talk) 20:34, November 8, 2021 (EST)
::You're the only one who seems to be having any issue with this, to be frank. The definition we have in place now is pretty simple, they're items that Mario (or any character) can collect that grant special abilities as long as he has the item, and that can usually be lost by taking damage. There really isn't any difference between the Fire Flower and the Goomba's Shoe in that regard. -- 20:52, November 8, 2021 (EST)

Giga Mushroom
Just thought I'd ask this, should the Giga mushroom be added? It was certainly considered for Bowsers's Fury. (It was finished, just not implemented.) I'm not expecting this to be added, just thought I'd ask.
ExploudX4  (talk) 24:27, December 22, 2021 (EST)
:It is unused, so no it shouldn't be added. 13:30, December 22, 2021 (EST)

goomba's shoe
The goomba's shoe is no more of a power-up than Yoshi. They even replace each other in different game styles in the Super Mario Maker games. Pikachu210 (talk) 19:45, April 13, 2023 (EDT)
:For my two cents, Yoshi in the platforming games actually is treated like a power-up and I wouldn't be entirely opposed to including him on this list for the same reason as Goomba's Shoe. 17:03, April 15, 2023 (EDT)
::Yoshi is no power-up. Yoshi is a dinosaur. Pikachu210 (talk) 03:39, April 21, 2023 (EDT)
