:The term is only used for two Power Moons - three in the Japanese version (ふしぎな雲 ''Fushigi na Kumo'', same meaning) - but I'd say after the first time it was most likely intended as its actual name. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 02:21, 25 May 2018 (EDT)

So, here's the situation. The current name of '''Mysterious Cloud''' comes from two Power Moon names, that being "Across the Mysterious Clouds" in Cascade Kingdom and "Volcano Cave and Mysterious Clouds" in Luncheon Kingdom. As discussed in the above conversation, the game is consistent about using this name for moons involving the hat-shaped clouds, across every language. The thing is, I don't think it's supposed to be their ''name'', but rather a description of them. The Art of Super Mario Odyssey calls them '''Hat Cloud''' instead (including the Japanese version, which calls them 帽子雲), and it uses the same name as Odyssey itself for obscure stuff like Warp Holes. This seems like the most reasonable decision.

Alternatively, Prima calls them '''cap cloud'''. I don't think we should take a Prima name over both the game and the concept art, but I'll include an option for it anyways.

'''Edit''': By Nintendo101's tip on Discord, "hat cloud" is written as lowercase in TAoSMO, and I got mixed up because the book stylizes titles in title case. Hope this answers Hewer's question!

#{{User|Nintendo101}} The Prima Game guides are not illegitimate or bad sources. However, much of that information is written independently by the authors themselves, and they will create original names for recurring subjects if not given discrete nomenclature for them. ''The Art of Super Mario Odyssey'' is not like that - it is a direct English translation of a Japanese book that was developed by Shogakukan and saw direct engagement with Nintendo Co., Ltd. staff, including the people who designed the game. So the names used in this book are directly from the makers of the game, whereas many of the ones in Prima were not or are inconsistent. When looking at these texts side by side, I would personally prefer we prioritize ''The Art of Super Mario Odyssey'' over the Prima guidebook for the game for situations where inconsistency arises. I think I trust those names a little more. "Cap cloud" is not an erroneous name, but I would prefer we prioritize "Hat Cloud."

What's up with the casing? The article currently has "hat cloud" in lowercase, is that wrong? {{User:Hewer/sig}} 08:29, November 30, 2024 (EST)
