:There was a proposal about this a while ago. Some of the details weren't actually specified though. We decided to split the Goombas from Super Mario World into another article, but we were unsure of what to call it. Originally, we were going to name it Goomba (SMW), but that didn't pan out, so we named it Kuribon. However, though we discovered that Kuribon translates into "Chestnut People", we have yet to actually move the article. I'm not sure why, actually. 10:13, 22 November 2008 (EST)

I saw the proposal for merging the Small Goomba with the normal Goomba and the first thing I thought was "Why isn't this Goomba merged."

Now that it's confirmed they're returning in Super Mario 3D World, people looking at the article may think it is solely about the ones appearing in Super Mario World, even though this article has information for both of the games. In simple words; we should move this to prevent confusion.

Rather than a conjectural name, how about using the Japanese name from SMW: Kuribon. Having "SMW" in the page name is indeed something to be avoided now that there's another appearance in the offing, and who knows, maybe they'll get an official English name with this reappearance, but in the meantime, another language would still be preferable to conjecture. To that end, I suggest adding "Kuribon" as a third voting option to this TPP. - 22:46, 17 June 2013 (EDT)

:Alright, I'll add that, but what should I do about the votes? Should I just remove them all and restart the proposal? Mr. Game & Watch 22:51, 17 June 2013 (EDT)

::It's up to you but I wouldn't bother: it's early enough that they'll hopefully check back in on their own sooner or later. - 23:12, 17 June 2013 (EDT)

First appearance
Super Mario World is considered the first instance of this creature, since it is based on the appearance of the Goombas in that game. So by that logic, why isn't Paper Mario considered the first appearance of Paper goombas, Paper Koopa Troopas and the like? 9:41 PM 7/27/2019 (EST)

:Galoombas aren't based on the SMW Goombas. They're the same enemy, just now with a unique name. The paper enemies, and other unique paper entities from Paper Jam like Paper Mario and Paper Bowser, are considered to be new to Paper Jam, as there's no actual proof that it's those exact characters from the original Paper Mario games, where the paper was just a stylistic choice and as far as we know, that is the Mario, the Bowser, etc. and not some paper version from an alternate dimension. -- 21:47, July 27, 2019 (EDT)
Are you kidding me? The proof is in the pudding! Miami to confirmed that Paper Mario has always been a seperste character from main Mario, and the fact that the Papet Mario game opens with a book should he proof enough that the games take place in a book! And the book appearance in Mario and Luigi Paper Jam! MarioLover54 (talk) 13:57, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
Also, what's "Papet"? MarioLover54 (talk) 13:58, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
One, Galoombas aren't based on Goombas in that game, they are the Goombas in that game. They were given a different name due to looking distinct from any other instance of Goomba in a Mario game. I'd hardly consider that "proof in the pudding". Secondly, Paper Mario isn't considered the first appearance for those enemies because the idea of Paper Mario as an alternate-universe counterpart - rather than just being "the" Mario as presented in a "paper" style like the rest of his world - wasn't made a thing until Paper Jam, where the 'Paper' prefix distinguishes them from their "real" counterparts in that same game. Before that, no mention was made of alternate dimensions and what-not; you're probably still going off the faulty assumption that there must be some kind of continuous unbroken canon between all the games, which... no, there isn't. -- 14:56, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
