How are they chain chomps? They seem to be just Amps shaped as Bowser heads that can be attached to chains.<br> 00:57, 18 April 2013 (EDT)

::How are Amps Chain Chomps? They don't look like Chain Chomps at all. It's not confirmed they are Chain Chomps, so I'm going to remove this information.

:::Amps are Chomps, since they're called Electro-Chomps some other times. Bowser Amps are Amps, so that's why they're called Chomps. But the template "Chain Chomp" is misleading: I changed the template title to "Chomp" to avoid any more confusion. 17:36, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
::::The nomenclature, "Electro-Chomps" is what Prima gave them, and Prima is not the best source for enemy names. Their Japanese name makes no reference to Chain Chomps (Wan-wan), and we have no official source stating that they are Chomps. Plus, Amps do not resemble Chain Chomps (even though the Fire Chomp bears a resemblance to Amps), which further leads me to conclude that Amps are not Chain Chomps, and we shouldn't assume they're Chain Chomps unless officially stated. None of the evidence that Amps are Chain Chomps feel satisfactory to me.

:::::Prima IS an official source. 17:43, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
::::::Prima is the next official source if there is none, and they're Chomps, not Chain Chomps, just how Fire Chomps are Chomps, not Chain Chomps (and the Fire Chomp's Japanese name gives no hint to it either). Since there is a some-what official source for the Amps being Chomps compared to your assumption that they aren't Chomps just because they don't look like Chomps. I know I agree with you there that they bear no resemblance to Chomps, but still... 17:46, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
The problem is that Prima makes mistakes on naming normal enemies. And, I didn't just say they didn't resemble Chain Chomps, but their Japanese name makes no reference whatsoever on this enemy being a Chain Chomp. And also, I just found out that at least Fire Chomps somewhat resemble Chain Chomps, and they get an official name. My main problem with basing Prima as an official source is that they often slip on enemy names that we know for sure what their names are, and when they're the only source for enemies that lack a name, we're in that gray area where the name is neither conjectural nor official. There's also a similar discussion related to this, and the last comment sounds convincing.

:They're not CHAIN CHOMPS. I did not say they were CHAIN CHOMPS. I said they could be CHOMPS. Just like how a Fire Chomp is a Chomp 17:58, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
::They're not Chomps either. Remember how we stated that if Prima is the only source, then we stick to it? Amps are the official name. Prima gives them the name, "Electro-Chomps", however, so do we automatically assume they're related to Chomps? Since Bowser Amps are Amps, does that make them Chomps? I don't see the logic. The Prima Guide has a history on giving incorrect names, so I wouldn't assume Bowser Amps are Chomps because the Prima Guide calls Amps "Electro-Chomps".
:: 18:03, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
:::The Prima guide is the primary reason we call Podoboos Lava Bubbles since they are the latest official names and that "Amp" could be fallen out in favor of "Electro-Chomps". 18:07, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
::::Lava Bubble's name is found in-game in Mario Party 8 and Paper Mario. That's official enough. 18:09, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
:::::Electro-Chomp can be the more recent name, meaning that Amps could be fallen out of favor 18:12, 27 April 2013 (EDT)
::::::The difference is that while Lava Bubbles are actually mentioned in-game, Electro-Chomps are referenced only in the Prima Guide. If I needed to know if the name really did fall out of use, I'd wait until we get an in-game description explicitly stating they are Electro-Chomps. Otherwise, we shouldn't assume they're Chomps.

But Prima is as official as the games. Anyway, IMO they're not Chomps. We could state that Amps are called Electro-Chomps, so Bowser Amps may be Chomps in the article, but we shouldn't state they're Chomps.

:::::::Prima is nto as offical as the games. At all. And they have a long way to go before they will be. --Hiccup (talk) 09:24, 14 July 2015 (EDT)
::::::::Prima is less official than the games and Nintendo Power, but it's still very much an official source.
:::::::::I thought this proposal settled it. As it's stated, it's clearly a mistake on Prima's part. 14:40, 14 July 2015 (EDT)
