I kinda agree with Four Paper Heroes. If someone knows their japenese name, we should split, as they are very different. 18:10, 3 December 2011 (EST)

TPP: Merge Piranhacus Giganticus with Big Piranha Plant
Settled TPP
red
I already commented about this here a long while ago, and now I'm proposing the merging of these articles for three reasons. First, while Piranhacus Gigantici and Big Piranha Plants are found in pipes and out of them, respectively, the regular Piranha Plants have been seen in both forms, and those two forms are same species. Second, both giant Piranhas have the same Japanese name, でかパックンフラワー (Deka Pakkunfurawā), meaning "Huge Piranha Flower", so the two forms are considered the same species in Japan. Third, the name Piranhacus Giganticus hasn't been used since Super Mario Bros. 3, I believe, and since Big Piranha Plant has been recently used more often and officially, it outrules Piranhacus Giganticus by this wiki's naming policies.

Merge the pages
#SmokedChili Per proposal.

Don't do it
#Stonehill There is actually a difference between the two. The first is that they obviously have different names. The second is that Piranhacus Gigantici are actually Big Piranha Plants that spawn from pipes. In addition, normal Big Piranha Plants don't spawn out of pipes, at least that's what I've seen in recent games. Therefore, we should treat them separately.
#Vommack Per Stonehill.
#Koopakoolklub Piranicus Gigantici are waaay huger than Big Piranha Plants.
#Ghost Jam I feel that we have enough evidence of the differences that they should stay separate.

Comments
I'm fairly sure that Giganticus was what was used in NSMBU, which would be about as recent as it gets.--Vommack (talk) 13:13, 8 June 2014 (EDT)

Piranhacus Giganticus appears in Super Mario 64, where they clearly do NOT spawn from pipes. They just grow, throw a fireball, and shrink. 22:18, 9 June 2014 (EDT)
:Yeah, about that: How accurate is this wiki when it says they're called "Venus Fire Traps" in English in that game? Because the closest source I can think of would be a guide. SmokedChili (Talk) (Thoughts) 10:39, 10 June 2014 (EDT)
::Wait, why are they called Piranhacus Giganticus AND Big Fire Piranha Plant? Weird, isn't it? 20:23, 11 June 2014 (EDT)
:::Well anyway, if they're called Piranhacus Gigantici in SM64, that'd actually help my argument. That means we have the huge Piranhas out of pipes going by names "Piranhacus Giganticus" and "Big Piranha Plant", thus there's no true specification or split between the two. And since the latter has slowly become more common name in official material, I think we should have all huge Piranha -related info in one article instead of making unnecessary splits because of objects with same common original name having minor differences between them. SmokedChili (Talk) (Thoughts) 16:17, 13 June 2014 (EDT)
::::Even though I opposed in this proposal, I do have the feeling that SmokedChili actually brought up a good point. Maybe Piranhacus Gigantici were misnomers in games prior to Super Mario Galaxy 2, but this could become another dispute like 3D World Toad. <font face="Stencil">#5f9ea0</font> At last, the rock fell. 22:57, 21 June 2014 (EDT)
