This is a slight follow-up to my recent Super Mario RPG name proposal. Currently we're using the name "Atomic Boo" in regards to Super Mario Galaxy with the clear reasoning being that Super Paper Mario used that name and was the latest game to use any name for the species. Given that the name "Atomic Boo" has never been used outside of the Paper Mario games and there are even games that came between Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario that used the name "Big Boo" (an example being Super Princess Peach which uses the name in-game), I really think we can use discretion for this case and call them "Big Boo" for Super Mario Galaxy as well. 19:57, January 17, 2025 (EST) | This is a slight follow-up to my recent Super Mario RPG name proposal. :The rationale for Super Mario Galaxys "Atomic Boo" is because it was the most recent in-game name at the time, with Super Paper Mario having released just earlier that year (also, to a lesser extent, because Mega Boo was merged with the Big Boo article at the time and the names helped differentiate them). However, I've been thinking that maybe a better way to handle recent names is by doing it on a per-series basis rather than blanket recency. For instance, treating "Lava Bubble" as the most recent name for that enemy in the Super Mario series ever since Super Mario Worlds Mario Mania guide would make the Super Mario series sections more consistent, rather than jump "Podoboo" around because of some other games in the franchise. Another example, there's already a precedent with this in things like the Yoshi's Island DS guides, which carry over many names from Yoshi's Island games/guides (e.g. Para-Koopa, Flopsy Fish...) - just apply them to the broader Yoshi's Island series, like how Kaboomba and Piro Dangle are used over Cannon and Spark for Yoshi's New Island. Doing recent names on a per-series basis would alleviate issues like Podoboo and Big Boo and patch over one raised here (plus, with Super Mario RPG as its own series...). Also: we already do this with other media and other franchises like the Mario-franchise cameos in The Legend of Zelda franchise, so it would just be applying that idea within the Super Mario franchise games.
