So apparently, we call these object cogs, because an official Australian Nintendo magazine called these as such [https://ia903204.us.archive.org/BookReader/BookReaderImages.php?zip=/25/items/Nintendo_Magazine_System_05_1993-08_Trielle_AU/Nintendo_Magazine_System_05_1993-08_Trielle_AU_jp2.zip&file=Nintendo_Magazine_System_05_1993-08_Trielle_AU_jp2/Nintendo_Magazine_System_05_1993-08_Trielle_AU_0055.jp2&id=Nintendo_Magazine_System_05_1993-08_Trielle_AU&scale=4&rotate=0 when listing various objects in ''Super Mario Land 2'']. As discussed on [[Talk:Cog (obstacle)#Comments|a talk page about another cog]] (how ''cog''nitive), though, I found myself wondering if there wasn't a better name for this item, as honestly, this isn't really a cog at all (it's a ball-shaped lift that's attached to chains), and likewise, other languages don't seem to refer to it as a cog either. So I did some digging on Archive.org, and found [[:File:NPDec1992P48.jpg|a page of a ''Nintendo Power'' issue]] in which these things are being referred to as "balls on chains".

:As the one who found "cog" to begin with, I'm in full support. We can just use <nowiki>{{distinguish}}</nowiki> for ball on chain and Ball 'N' Chain since they don't outright conflict. [[User:LinkTheLefty|LinkTheLefty]] ([[User talk:LinkTheLefty|talk]]) 12:10, April 12, 2024 (EDT)

::Yeah, that sounds good. Um, should I wait for more people that agree or do you think I can rename the page already (or heck, should I make a proposal first)? {{User:Arend/sig}} 14:25, April 12, 2024 (EDT)

:::I personally think it looks clear-cut and you're good to go, but I guess it doesn't hurt to wait a little while just in case any objections are raised. If that happens, it's a sign of proposal time. [[User:LinkTheLefty|LinkTheLefty]] ([[User talk:LinkTheLefty|talk]]) 15:45, April 12, 2024 (EDT)
::::Well, 24 hours have gone by and nothing else has been said. Assuming that Nintendo101 and Pseudo over on the other cog talk page are in agreement too, I suppose I have the green light to move it. {{User:Arend/sig}} 15:40, April 13, 2024 (EDT)
