While the above discussion from almost a decade ago raised some understandable points for why this article is called "Baby Donkey Kong", this is inconsistent with how names generally work on this wiki. Neither game that this character appears in refers to him as "Baby Donkey Kong" in-game, and in-game names have higher priority than external names. Yes, "Baby Donkey Kong" is the full unabbreviated version of the name, but if it were standard practice to prioritize "full names" over more commonly used names, then I think some changes would have to be made regarding our coverage of Elvin, Mr. Thang, and the Calm Amazing Flying Hammer Brother.

#Camwoodstock For consistency's sake. Given he's overwhelmingly just called Baby DK, it surprises us this wasn't changed sooner. The only reason that this seems to even be a thing is that "Baby Donkey Kong" was made first in August 2006 (a few months before the release of Yoshi's Island DS, mind!), and "Baby DK" was merely made a redirect in December 2006.

#EvieMaybe per pp (short for per proposal)

#Hewer Consistency, I suppose.
#Nintendo101 on some level, this is the more "valid" name for the character since this is what he is actually what he is referred to in the games he is in.
#Jdtendo Per naming policy.
#Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - We also say "Baby Peach" and "Baby Daisy" rather than "Baby Princess Peach" and "Baby Princess Daisy," so it's consistent there too.
#FanOfYoshi Per all.

Keep as Baby Donkey Kong
#DrBaskerville While Camwoodstock and Hewer have convincing points, I'm most moved by Arend's commentary in the comments.  "Baby Donkey Kong" is an official name per the sources Arend linked.  Whereas most will identify "DK" as "Donkey Kong", I think spelling out the full name makes the most sense.

Should be noted that in above discussion, when LinkTheLefty said (ten years ago) that the full "Baby Donkey Kong" name only comes from a card game... well that "card game" is actually a bunch of collectible trading cards hosted by the official Mario Super Sluggers website at the time, which means that this and this are actually official profiles published by Nintendo themselves. He's also referred fully as "Baby Donkey Kong" here, as well as here. 13:00, June 7, 2024 (EDT)

:Yes, that is an official name, but in-game names have priority over external names. 13:13, June 7, 2024 (EDT)

:One thing I find interesting is that the bio for Baby DK lists the name as Baby DK even though all the other mentions of him on the card say Baby Donkey Kong. It's not like the description was pulled from the game either, because that just uses short sentences to describe each character. To be clear, I'm not in any way arguing that "Baby Donkey Kong" is an unofficial name. It is, however, stated unambiguously in MarioWiki:NAME that an in-game name for a subject is the highest priority source for what the article should be called. Saying that the name is used on a trading card and a website and that these come "from Nintendo" doesn't override the fact that this is a character who has appeared in exactly two video games and that both of these video games call the character "Baby DK". 18:04, June 7, 2024 (EDT)
:: I understand your position, and you're right the in-game name should normally take precedence, but in a case like this, where there's a disparity between a character that is established as a younger version of the same character, I think its acceptable to use the full name of its counterpart since it is more descriptive and not inaccurate.  I think it just boils down to a difference of opinion, which is fine to have.  -- 18:39, June 7, 2024 (EDT)
:::Why would a disparity with Donkey Kong matter? Should Baby Peach be Baby Princess Peach? And somewhat similarly, Mini-Mario is hyphenated but Mini Luigi and the others aren't,  Jimmy T has no punctuation unlike Jimmy P.. All of these characters are using their most recent and in-game names, regardless of any "disparity". 03:05, June 8, 2024 (EDT)
